First to see action for Worland High School will be the Warriors varsity and junior varsity teams as they start the first round of the Big Horn Basin Shootout tonight. "We've had a good three weeks of practice. Everyone has been coming...
CONCORD, N.H. (AP) — New Hampshire has a new governor — for two days. Republican Senate President Chuck Morse is in charge between former governor Maggie Hassan’s swearing in as a U.S. Senator and Gov.-elect Chris Sununu’s inauguration. He’s approaching the short stint with a bit of sharp humor. “Over the last four years, I thought I was the acting governor,” he said, referencing Hassan’s two terms. The pair often sparred over who deserved credit for the state budget and other policy accomplishments. Morse officially became governor at 12:...
CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) — Dylann Roof spoke Wednesday for the first time to the jurors who will decide whether he should be executed for fatally shooting nine black parishioners during a Bible study, insisting that he is not mentally ill and foregoing a chance to plead for his life. The soft-spoken 22-year-old white man told the jury that he was not trying to keep any secrets from them. He did not offer remorse or seek forgiveness or ask them to spare him from a lethal injection. “My opening statement is going to seem a little bit out of pla...
In pinochle, when you can’t follow suit, you are required to play a trump card. Come Jan. 20, it doesn’t matter whether or not you voted for Hillary Clinton – as I most certainly did – you are stuck with the Trump card. He represents the only game in town. Taking the torturous card-playing metaphor one step further, those of us who voted for Hillary (the pant suit?) – especially here in the reddest state of them all – have no choice but to fold our hands (in prayer?). As has been mostly the case through the years, Republicans rule at the coun...
NEW YORK (AP) — U.S. stocks climbed Wednesday as investors bought shares of companies focused on consumers, including automakers and retailers. The Standard & Poor’s 500 index finished a single point below its all-time high. General Motors and Ford jumped as car companies reported generally strong sales for the month of December. Companies that mine for metals and make chemicals and other materials climbed as the dollar receded a bit from its recent highs. Small-company stocks picked up where they left off in 2017 as the Russell 2000 index out...

CHEYENNE – With the 2017 Wyoming Legislative Session starting Jan. 10, area representatives are preparing to return to the Capitol to attend to the budget restraints currently gripping the state. For Representative Mike Greear (R-Worland, District 27), the new session means a chairmanship on the Minerals, Business and Economic Development Committee, and a renewed look at further budget cuts. “The supplemental budget has already been presented and the governor’s budget requires no additional cuts, but a couple of agencies are heading for some...

The Billings Gazette reports that the Yellowstone County commission voted Tuesday to approve installing the 23-name plaque on a courthouse lawn. In WWI, women served in the U.S. Army, Navy and Marine Corps, primarily as nurses or in administrative posts. A chapter of Disabled American Veterans is providing the plaque, which was created by member, Army veteran and Laurel resident Ed Saunders. S...
