    Jan 8, 2016

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — A macaque monkey who took now-famous selfie photographs cannot be declared the copyright owner of the photos, a federal judge said. U.S. District Judge William Orrick said in federal court in San Francisco Wednesday that “while Congress and the president can extend the protection of law to animals as well as humans, there is no indication that they did so in the Copyright Act.” The lawsuit filed last year by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals sought a court order allowing PETA to represent the monkey and let it to...

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — The recent arrests in Utah of three people accused of stealing thousands of dollars’ worth of baby formula is the latest example of a problem that officials say is vexing stores and police nationwide as thieves systematically swipe the mixture from shelves and resell it to unsuspecting parents. Baby formula is a major expense for many new parents, with small canisters starting around $20 and special or prescription blends costing two or three times that. It’s also widely used. Jan 8, 2016

MARLEY JAY AP Markets Writer NEW YORK (AP) — Stocks and oil prices plunged again Thursday on spreading fears that China’s economy, a major engine of global growth, is sputtering. It was the worst one-day drop on Wall Street since late September, and the main U.S. benchmark, the Standard & Poor’s 500 index, has now had its worst four-day opening of a year in history. The latest bout of market volatility came after China allowed its currency to weaken further, a dangerous omen for the world’s second-largest economy. That helped set off a 7 perce...

    Jan 8, 2016

JACKSON (AP) — The Jackson Town Council is considering repealing a decades-old law that bans concealed weapons including pistols knives, dirks, daggers and swords-in-canes. The Jackson Hole News and Guide reports that the potential change is part of an effort to update older parts of the municipal code to match state laws. Council members who oppose changing that law, which dates back to the 1970s, say they don’t like that the Wyoming Legislature is trying to diminish local control with the Wyoming Firearms Freedom Act. The repeal will be up...

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (AP) - Gary Kubiak stuck to his word in naming Peyton Manning his starter even after declaring that Brock Osweiler had done nothing to deserve a demotion. "If he's healthy and ready to go, Peyton's our quarterback." Manning is healthy and ready to go. So, he'll be under center for the Denver B...

  • Worland basketball teams both come away with wins in Cody

    Sisco Molina, Sports Editor|Jan 8, 2016

CODY – Well, Worland girls basketball coach Mark Mortimer didn’t get the fast start from his team he was hoping for as they traveled to face Cody on Thursday. Luckily for Mortimer and the Lady Warriors, Cody didn’t start fast, either. It took time, but behind its high-pressure defense No. 1 Worland (4-0) was able to blow the game open in the second quarter with a 16-0 run as it went on beat Cody (1-6) by a score of 59-28. “The first quarter was a little shaky … You can’t just walk onto a 3A floor when you’re on the road and think you’re going...
