  • Federal agency tentatively OKs wolf management plan

    Jan 12, 2016

JACKSON (AP) — Environmental groups are objecting to how a federal agency has developed a new management plan for handling conflicts between wolves and livestock producers in Wyoming. Wildlife Services, an agency with the U.S. Agriculture Department’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service, completed an environmental planning document last fall that favored its current lethal and nonlethal wolf conflict management program. The Greater Yellowstone Coalition contends the public and other federal land managers such as the Bridger-Teton Nat...

  • Yellowstone chief: bison slaughters to continue for now

    Jan 12, 2016

YELLOWSTONE (AP) — Large numbers of migrating Yellowstone National Park bison are likely to face slaughter for at least the next couple of winters as officials weigh changes to a 15-year-old agreement that drives the practice. Most of the bison removed from America’s first national park are captured and sent to slaughter over concerns they may transmit disease to Montana livestock. Yellowstone Superintendent Dan Wenk told The Associated Press he’s hopeful the slaughters eventually will be phased out and replaced by hunting. Wenk says that...

  • Peyton Manning: A nice guy

    John Davis|Jan 12, 2016

I’m a Peyton Manning fan, although I confess that I wasn’t always a fan. When he played for Indianapolis, I remember yelling at the TV, complaining about that blankety-blank quarterback who was scoring so many points on Denver. But when he signed on with the Broncos, I took a closer look at the guy and the more I looked the more I concluded that he is really quite an admirable human being. I read a number of small news stories showing what a decent guy he is, when time and again he demonstrated real kindness to people in distress. Sports Ill...

  • Hold the 16-oz drink, limit salt

    Jan 12, 2016

WASHINGTON (AP) — Better cut down on sugar, especially those 16-ounce drinks, and limit your salt. But you might not need to worry quite as much about eggs. The Obama administration’s latest dietary guidelines, released Thursday, seek to help Americans reduce their likelihood of disease and obesity through a more healthful diet. The newest guidance comes down hard on sugar that’s added to food and drinks but says lean meat is a healthy protein and more eggs may be OK, despite years of advice to the contrary. Released every five years, the guide...

    Sisco Molina, Sports Editor|Jan 12, 2016

COWLEY – The Lady Warriors needed a buzzer-beater to get to the championship game of the Big Horn Basin Hoops Fest in Cowley on Saturday. Worland was bothered by a slow start once again, but once it got going it left no doubt – running away with the game against Buffalo to secure the tournament trophy with a 54-30 win over the Lady Bison. "My biggest concern is the way we've been coming out offensively in the first quarter," Worland girls basketball coach Mark Mortimer said. "But def...
