  • Karla's Kolumn: Is it a false alarm?

    Karla Pomeroy, Editor|Feb 3, 2018

When is a fire alarm just a drill? The answer to that more than likely is only when you are a student in school. Unless of course your company has drills. But if you are in a store or public event and a fire alarm goes off, you can be assured it is not a drill. So how do you know if it is a false alarm or not? You don’t and you shouldn’t guess. But guess is what patrons at Washakie Museum and Cultural Center did Thursday at the opening reception for their newest temporary exhibits. Just about the time the entertainment was to begin the fire ala...

    ALEX VEIGA, AP Business Writer|Feb 3, 2018

U.S. stocks slumped Friday, pulling down the Dow Jones industrial average by more than 650 points and handing the market its worst week in two years. Technology, banks and energy stocks accounted for much of the broad slide. Several major companies, including Exxon Mobil and Google’s parent company, Alphabet, sank after reporting weak earnings. Fears of rising inflation sent bond yields higher and contributed to the stock market swoon after the government reported that wages grew last month at the fastest pace in eight years. The sharp drop f...

  • Hear me out...The most prestigious sports film awards

    Alex Kuhn, Sports Editor|Feb 3, 2018

Awards season for the motions pictures is in full swing and last week the Oscar nominations for the 90th Academy Awards were announced. Disappointingly, there wasn’t a ton of backlash to the nominations. Usually, you have a bunch of people up in arms over movies they’ve never watched, this year everyone seemed pretty chill. There was the push to have “Wonder Woman” as an Oscar snub, which was a stretch. Awesome superhero movie? No doubt. One of the most entertaining movies of 2017? 100 percent. Made Marvel look foolish for never greenli...
