  • Animal rights protest scrapped after "greased pig" dust-up

    Feb 16, 2016

NEWPORT, N.H. (AP) — An international animal advocacy group launched a protest against a New Hampshire winter carnival event billed as a “Greased Pig on Ice,” but withdrew it after learning there’s no pig in the act — just a man on skates in a pig costume with dollar bills tied to his tail. Steve Smith, an organizer of the 100th Newport Winter Carnival, said People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, or PETA, launched its alert last week despite his reassurances that no pigs would be harmed during the Saturday event. Smith said he received ab...

  • 1 vote dooms Winters' Nondiscrimination Act

    Karla Pomeroy, Editor|Feb 16, 2016

CHEYENNE — State Rep. Nathan Winters (R-Thermopolis) was encouraged by the support his Government Nondiscrimination Act received, despite not being introduced on Friday. Winters said House Bill 98 missed introduction (needing two-thirds during a budget session) by one vote. The one vote, he said was a legislator with a meeting in another area. He said he feels the one vote would have been in favor giving him the necessary 40 votes. The bill was similar in nature to last year’s Religious Freedom Restoration Act that passed the House last yea...

    Feb 16, 2016

CHEYENNE (AP) — People could carry concealed guns into Wyoming legislative hearings and other meetings of public bodies around the state under a bill that advanced in a state legislative committee on Monday. The House Judiciary Committee voted 8-to-1 to send the bill to the full House. Sponsor Rep. Kendell Kroeker, R-Evansville, told the committee he wanted lawmakers and others to have the means to defend themselves. “For me, the biggest issue is in most of these places, they don’t have the means of stopping someone if they are bringing a wea...

  • UNDEFEATED NO MORE

    Sisco Molina, Sports Editor|Feb 16, 2016

WORLAND – Worland finally met its match on the hardwood on Saturday as it hosted Newcastle in a 3A Northeast as the Lady Warriors played their final game this season in Warrior Gymnasium. And the hot-shooting Lady Dogies did what no team has been able to do all season: Beat the Lady Warriors. No. 4 Newcastle (14-3 overall, 3-2 3A Northeast) scored double digits in every quarter – and seemed like it couldn't miss at time – and never trailed as it upset No. 1 Worland (16-1, 4-1) 61-51. "Defe...

  • Cowgirls off to good start in gauntlet part II

    Feb 16, 2016

LARAMIE — The Mountain West women’s basketball schedule did the University of Wyoming Cowgirls basketball team no favors this year. Not only do the Cowgirls get the last two byes of the regular season, but as it turned out Wyoming is the only team that will have to play the top three teams in the league back-to-back-to back — twice. The first time through wasn’t very pretty with UW going 0-3 against Colorado State, Fresno State and Boise State while losing by an average of 12.3 points. The second go-round, however, has started much better. Wyom...
