  • Poland confirms Minnesota man as Nazi commander

    Mar 14, 2017

WARSAW, Poland (AP) — Poland will seek the arrest and extradition of a Minnesota man exposed by The Associated Press as a former commander in an SS-led unit that burned Polish villages and killed civilians in World War II, prosecutors said Monday. Prosecutor Robert Janicki said evidence gathered over years of investigation into U.S. citizen Michael K. confirmed “100 percent” that he was a commander of a unit in the SS-led Ukrainian Self Defense Legion. He did not release the last name, in line with Poland’s privacy laws, but the AP has identif...

  • Galloping moose surprises snowboarder on Colorado run

    Mar 14, 2017

BRECKENRIDGE, Colo. (AP) — A moose on the loose caught several skiers and snowboarders by surprise as it galloped headlong down a run at Breckenridge Ski Resort in Colorado. Cheri Luther was snowboarding Friday when she saw the moose approaching, and she shot video of the large animal coming within feet of her. Luther, who kept snowboarding, is heard saying, “Oh, my God, I don’t know where to go” before screaming as the moose runs by her. Resort officials say no one was hurt, and the encounter is a good reminder that skiers and snowboa...

  • The history of downtown

    John Davis, Columnist|Mar 14, 2017

The other day one of my readers stopped me, said he’d enjoyed my columns about gas stations, and suggested that I write about the history of Worland’s downtown. I was immediately intrigued, although knowing that a discussion about property owned over the last 110 years in downtown Worland represented a bigger project than my columns about gas stations. For such an undertaking, the first thing you have to find is a good source of information. The Worland newspapers, starting with the Worland Grit (which began publishing in December, 1906), and t...

  • Investing in Worland

    Karla Pomeroy, Editor|Mar 14, 2017

WORLAND — Pet Barn owner Terry Sutherland is optimistic about Worland’s future and he acted on that optimism when he purchased the former Rock Bottom Bar at 607 Big Horn and is now renovating it into one of the nicer main street properties available for rent. Sutherland bought the property at auction and he hired Washakie Works to renovate the property. An open house was held last Wednesday for people to come and look at the property and offer suggestions on what Sutherland might be able to recruit into the facility. There is 3,000 square fee...

  • ...And more heartbreak

    Alex Kuhn, Sports Editor|Mar 14, 2017

CASPER - Again, repeating as state champions is one of the tougher things to do in sports, repeating with an entirely different starting five adds to that difficulty. Regardless, the Worland Warriors were still able to reach their third-straight championship game and were in position for back-to-back titles. Standing in their way in the 3A boys basketball championship were the Riverton Wolverines (28-1 overall). The Warriors were able to get on the scoreboard first by an Isaias Terrazas pull-up...
