During the Washakie County Commissioners meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 20, the commissioners interviewed six applicants for the vacant position of building maintenance manager. The position was previously held by Ryan Casad, who left the position at the end of January 2023. Previous manager Tom Schmeltzer has been temporarily filling the position. According to Washakie County Clerk Lily Rakness Parra, the commissioners selected Breck Buer for the position. Gerald Phillip Welfl passed away peacefully on February 12th, 2024, at the Good Samaritan Center in De Smet, SD. Service was Feb. 16 at the United Methodist Church, DeSmet. Interment at Black Hills National Cemetery at a later date. Gerald (Jerry) was born October 14th, 1934 to Lawerance and Nina Welfl in Phillip, SD. Donna Lee (Bruce) Moberly, 90, passed away at her home on February 17, 2024, surrounded by her beloved family. Donna was born on September 8, 1933, in Cody, Wyoming, the only child born to William Gerald and Alma Mary (Campbell) Bruce. They later adopted Michael James, giving Donna her only brother. The family moved to Greybull, Wyoming, where she attended school, graduating from Greybull High School in 1951. She married Harry Richard Moberly on September 23, 1950, in Red Lodge, Montana. The... Tracy Joe Kern, 51, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on February 16, 2024 after a battle with pancreatic cancer. He was born on April 26, 1972 to Harvey Duane and Helen (Pantoja) Kern in Hardin, Montana. He moved to Worland when he was 15 years old. Thermopolis Middle School Principal Darren Luebbe and High School Principal Catelyn Deromedi gave a joint report on how bullying is handled within their schools to the Hot Springs County School District No. 1 Board of Trustees at the Feb. 15 meeting. The Worland Warriors swimming and diving team only had two swimmers compete at the 3A State meet in Laramie last weekend, but both swimmers cut time and gave it their all. Senior Joey Durrant and junior Scott Thomas were the Warriors to compete at the season's culminating event. Durrant swam the 100-yard backstroke (100-yard backstroke) and 100-yard butterfly (1:08.98) at state and Thomas the 100-yard breaststroke (1:11.83). Three members of the University of Wyoming swimming and diving team died in a single-vehicle crash on U.S. Highway 287 about 10 miles south of the Wyoming-Colorado border Thursday afternoon. Two other members of the men's swimming and diving team were injured in the crash. Their injuries are not believed to be life-threatening. Hacker’s Brief 2/23/2024 Payroll Ploy: A Jackson citizen received a scam email purportedly from a former employee, requesting assistance in updating their direct deposit information before the next payday. The citizen speculates that the email may have originated from LinkedIn, as the employee has not worked for the company for two years but has not updated their LinkedIn account.
