  • Bolt says tight schedule slowed down 100-meter sprinters

    Aug 16, 2016

RIO DE JANEIRO (AP) — Usain Bolt rarely complains about going too fast. After the rushed road to Sunday night’s 100-meter final, he had to make an exception. Faced with a turnaround time of barely over an hour between the semifinal and final, Bolt had trouble gearing up to be at his best for the marquee event of the Olympics. He won his record-setting third straight gold medal , but his post-race comments were tinged with slams about the scheduling. “I don’t know who decided that,” Bolt said. “It was really stupid. So, that’s why the race was...

  • A classification trait turned into something great

    John Davis, Columnist|Aug 16, 2016

What is there about some boys (and some men) that compel them to classify things? My younger son, Dan, when he was 12 and 14, would put together lists of the greatest running backs, the best basketball players, and, as I remember, the highest mountains in the world. He came by this odd tendency honestly. When Dan’s father (moi) was a boy he was fascinated by airplanes. I was 12 in 1955 and this was a time when a ton of new, strange, and wonderful airplanes were being developed. Before and during World War II the science of aeronautics ran a...

Ebbesen, a fifth-year senior walk-on, is slated to be the starting center when the University of Wyoming opens its 2016 season Sept. 3 at home against Northern Illinois. "I wouldn't say he's dominant, but he's holding his own," third-year UW coach Craig Bohl said. "Du'Ryan is showing he's a guy we can count on." Ebbesen is from St. Croix in t...

RIO DE JANEIRO (Aug. 13, 2016) – Former Cowboys standout Mason Finley wrapped up his time at the Games of the XXXI Olympiad in Rio on Saturday, placing 11th in the men’s discus as he became the first American to compete in the final round of the event since Casey Malone in 2004. Finley’s first throw of the day measured 198 feet, 3.25 inches (60.43 meters), about 10 feet under his best throw of the preliminary round. He fouled on his second attempt, throwing the implement into the netting surrounding the ring. Finley bounced back on his third...

  • UW considers beer sales at athletic events to raise revenue

    Aug 16, 2016

LARAMIE (AP) — The Wyoming athletics department is considering allowing the sale of beer at sporting events to help make up for budget cuts. “There’s no chance of it happening this year, but there is more discussion amongst leadership, in athletics, at least, about whether it’s time to push for it,” Wyoming athletics director Tom Burman told the Casper Star-Tribune. Burman says the option has to at least be considered given recent financial challenges facing the state, university and athletics department. The state has cut the universit...
