  • Hear Me Out...NBA Finals Game 5 thoughts

    Alex Kuhn, Sports Editor|Jun 13, 2019

Getting this out of the way first, it stinks that Kevin Durant got hurt and is not only done for the remainder of the NBA Finals but also all of next season as well. And as is accustom in this day and age, everyone is looking to heap blame on someone. Warrior's president of basketball operation Bob Meyers already took responsibility for having Durant out there. And since he did that we can just move on, anything else feels like piling for piling on sake. It's not like Meyers held KD's family...

    Karla Pomeroy, Editor|Jun 13, 2019

WORLAND — The Washakie County Library may be moving downtown if financing and plans work out. Washakie County is in negotiations with Lee and Gerry Kennedy to purchase property for a new location for the Washakie County Library. The county is not considering purchasing the Kennedy’s business, Ace Hardware, but rather the building at 801 Big Horn Avenue. The Kennedys are working on purchasing the former Shopko building at 100 South 20th in Worland. Gerry Kennedy said this week that an offer by the Kennedys for an intent to purchase the bui...

    Karla Pomeroy, Editor|Jun 13, 2019

WORLAND — A couple main themes reverberated throughout the webinar regarding Shopko closures in the Big Horn Basin. The webinar last Thursday, June 6, provided insight and recommendations to Wyoming communities in the wake of 13 Shopko stores closing across the state, including Worland and Thermopolis. In April, the Wyoming Business Council partnered with local community leaders to host retail expert Matt Wagner, National Main Street Center vice president of revitalizations programs in the Big Horn Basin area. Wagner was tasked with using t...

  • The News Editorial

    Jun 13, 2019

What does life after Shopko look like? Shopko closed last month in Worland. Shopko stores have closed around the Big Horn Basin and across the state. Worland has been proactive in reacting to the closure, not allowing one big box chain store closing define us or determine our future. Local economic development groups in all four Big Horn Basin Shopko communities worked with the Wyoming Business Council and the National Main Street Center on conducting a study and survey for “life after Shopko.” A webinar last Wednesday provided insight and ana...

  • Loud and proud in Wyoming

    Cyd Lass, Staff Writer|Jun 13, 2019

This weekend, I had the honor of experiencing something new for myself and plenty of others. Though I have known this about myself since the eighth grade, this weekend, I learned that this isn't something I need to hide; at least, not anymore. June is known for plenty of things, but, most significant to me and many, many others, June is known as National Gay Pride month. I hid who I am from most people for years, only coming out to a few family members, but mostly close friends. Casper PRIDE is...

POWELL — Less than two years ago, Cody Laboratories was home to 135 higher-paying jobs, planning a massive expansion and praised by local and state leaders as an example of how Wyoming could diversify its economy. But by the end of this summer, the pharmaceutical manufacturer will cease operations and close its doors. Representatives from Philadelphia-based Lannett Company, which owns Cody Labs, broke the news to employees on Tuesday. Lannett officials said the dozens of workers will be laid off in three phases: at the end of June, in early A...
