  • Worland Wildfires grit their way to a third-place finish at state

    WORLAND - The Worland Wildfires 14U fast pitch softball team capped their season with a third-place finish at the state tournament in Casper July 8-10. The first day of the tournament was pool play and the Wildfires opponents were the Gillette Blue Jays and Douglas Diamonds. Against Gillette, Worland started the state tournament on the wrong foot losing 16-2. The game fell apart for the Wildfires in the second inning when they committed five errors that led to a 12-run inning for the Blue Jays....

    WORLAND – According to media reports parts of the country are expect to see temperatures as high as 110 degrees next week and most of the country will be under a heat wave. Community residents concerned with the prediction of most of the United States being under a heat wave next week can rest a little easier.   • Wolf Creek fire 75 percent contained

    SHERIDAN — The Wolf Creek fire, located on the Tongue Ranger District about 12 miles west of Sheridan, is at 75 percent containment. Containment efforts were hindered by the steep, rocky terrain, making it very difficult and unsafe for firefighters on the ground. Heavy helicopter water drops helped keep the one-acre fire from increasing in size. Firefighters will continue to patrol and monitor the fire.     WORLAND — While the 70 mph speed limit legislation was enacted immediately following signature by Gov. Matt Mead in March, the majority of bills approved by the Wyoming Legislature became effective July 1. Included among those enacted are: —Wolf depredation compensation program.
