Earlier this month Extension Educator Phyllis Lewis’ asked what your first sewing project was. That question brought to my mind my first and really my last sewing project. I took a home economics course in school that included nine weeks of sewing, nine weeks I’d like to forget. My mother was a wonderful embroider, embroidering pillow cases and dish towels and table runners. My grandmother crocheted wonderful afghans and doilies. Somehow those talents skipped right over me. I tried embroidering once but had about as much luck as my big project...
NEW YORK (AP) — Stocks ended slightly higher on Friday, helped by better-than-expected quarterly results from Google’s parent Alphabet and retailer Amazon and a modest recovery in oil prices. However, the gains were held back by disappointing results from Exxon Mobil as well as news out of the Bank of Japan, which did not announce as much stimulus as many had hoped. The Dow Jones industrial average closed down 24.11 points, or 0.1 percent, to 18,432.24. The Dow was held back partly by a drop in the oil giant Exxon Mobil. The company rep...
WORLAND — The 2016 Washakie County Horse Show got started Friday, thanks in part to first-year superintendent Jessica Tharp. Tharp said she volunteered this year because she didn’t want to lose the horse show as part of the county fair. “They didn’t have a lot of volunteers and I didn’t want to see the horse show go away. There aren’t as many kids in this show but they work just as hard,” Tharp said. There were 12 participants in this year’s horse show. Tharp herself is fairly new to 4-H, hav...
The 2016 Rio Olympics are going to stink, and that's not all due to the raw sewage. Rio is a landmine field of health and safety concerns, the city and Brazilian government crumbling before our very eyes and Russian having nearly 20 percent of their team banned. Before I get too serious, I know China is the United States' new rival, but Russia is still our original Olympic rival. Russia having 110 of their athletes banned, 68 of those coming from track and field, lessens the competition. A weakened Russian team sounds good on paper, but it's mu...
LARAMIE - A big part of recruiting in college athletics is building relationships, and that led Louis Adams to sign with the University of Wyoming men's basketball team. The 6-foot-4, 185-pound Adams signed with the Cowboys Wednesday, and the school announced his signing Thursday. Adams fills the final scholarship available for UW for the 2016-17 season. Adams spent last season at Odessa College in Odessa, Texas. The year before that, the Chicago product played at Indian Hills Community College...

Beginning at 1 p.m. Friday, the area closure will be reduced to include the Ten Sleep North Wall below the runaway truck ramp on U.S. Highway 16. The Arden Fire, burning approximately 45 road miles...
WORLAND – Washakie Medical Center was gifted $500,000 for equipment from Banner Health, and received an interpretation device to aide those who are deaf at the hospital and clinic. Previously, Banner gifted $1 million to be used for equipment since the $23.4 million hospital construction budget could be used just for the construction. A CT machine was bought with the Banner funding. The new $500,000 from Banner Health was given after CEO Jay Stallings approached Banner after they discovered $406,000 out of the $429,000 budgeted under legal fees...
