    WORLAND - In preparation for their 2017 season the Worland High School cross-country team will take part in the Pepsi Wyoming State Championship BBQ and Bluegrass Festival 5K run Saturday at the Washakie County Fairgrounds.     WORLAND — The Washakie County Commissioners and Worland City Council each approved a memorandum of understanding Tuesday at their respective meetings to split costs for excavation of the Big Horn River sandbar north of the U.S. Highway 20 bridge.     TEN SLEEP – During the Ten Sleep School Board meeting Monday evening the board heard the results of the 2016-2017 PAWS (Proficiency Assessments for Wyoming Students) from Ten Sleep School Principal Russell Budmayr.     CHEYENNE - The Wyoming Game and Fish Department is banning open fires on all Game and Fish Commission owned and administered lands to prevent wildfires and protect the important habitat during the eclipse weekend. These lands include all public access areas and wildlife habitat management areas statewide. Many fire bans were already in place across the state, but with the added use of these lands for the eclipse viewing the ban was instituted statewide.     WORLAND – Engineers and representatives from the Wyoming Department of Transportation District 5 office held an information session with the county commission and local leaders on Wednesday, to review the State Transportation Improvement Program for 2017-2018 and go over budget numbers and schedule for future projects in Washakie County.     Merle Hamilton unsaddled his horse for the last time on August 13, 2017. After 91 years working in agriculture he lost his battle with lung and brain cancer and the sands of time. Merle Chester Hamilton was born December 30, 1925 in Bowman, North Dakota to Chester A. and Myra L. Hamilton. Merle joined his older brother, Lyle and later two sisters, Virginia Hamilton Lissolo and Maxine Hamilton Singletary joined the family.
