A roundup of some of the most popular, but completely untrue, headlines of the week. None of these stories are legit, even though they were shared widely on social media. The Associated Press checked these out; here are the real facts: NOT REAL: Charlottesville Killer Was Hillary Supporter, Funded By Soros THE FACTS: James Fields, who’s charged with murder after police say he drove his car into a Charlottesville, Virginia, crowd last weekend, supported President Donald Trump during the 2016 campaign, his former teacher told the AP. GoFundMe c...
I'm excited for Monday. I don't normally, OK I never say I'm excited for a Monday. But, I am this time because it is solar eclipse day. I won't be traveling to Thermopolis to view the eclipse in totality. I'll be watching from home, where I will have my camera (complete with solar eclipse filter) set up on a tripod to try and capture this historic moment. I'll have 99.4 percent totality at the house. I'm happy with that. I was a young child during the last solar eclipse, 1979, and I remember...
NEW YORK (AP) — U.S. stocks slumped in the final minutes of trading Friday and ended a rough week with more losses. Bad news from sporting goods retailers weighed on the market. A day before, stocks had taken their biggest loss in three months. They opened lower after retailers Foot Locker and Hibbett Sports gave dour quarterly reports. The losses eased and stocks briefly turned higher following reports that President Donald Trump’s chief strategist, Steve Bannon, left his White House post. Investors felt that makes it a bit more likely the...
I know reading or hearing the word eclipse might induce a state of nausea but hang with me we're almost through this. Monday will be here soon enough and we can take in the natural phenomena for all its glory. The weekend will bring many tourists and if you feel the rage begin building up as they wander aimlessly on the road or at the store, use the sounds of a casino to bring you back down. Because when it is all said and done they'll be on their way leaving a sizable chunk of change here in ou...
WORLAND - It is Worland's turn to host the 87th Wyoming State Horseshoe Pitching Tournament happening August 26-27 at the Washakie County Fairgrounds. On a rotation with other sanctioned horseshoe pitching leagues like Lovell, Rock Springs and Gillette, Worland will have the best pitchers in the state competing for state titles. "We have 46 people signed up so far and we're happy to take on more if they're interested," said Sandy Richard. Worland last hosted in 2014 and with 46 competitors...
WORLAND – Jane O'Connor, Washakie County Fair flower show superintendent, has decided to retire from her position and hand the vines over to someone else. Her successor hasn't been decided yet but O'Connor will be around to help make the transition smooth. "I don't know who's going to, they [Garden Club] have to decide that, I will still help, of course, but someone else is going to take the leadership. I think it's time someone else should learn because I am in my 80s," O'Connor said. "I've e...
WORLAND - The saying "necessity is the mother of invention" rang true for Worland plumber and construction worker Bart Hillman. Frustrated with having to use several tools instead of one to tighten or loosen a beam clamp, Hillman invented a wrench that replaces two to three tools and allows him to use one. Hillman received his patent on the BCW - beam clamp wrench, or as he likes to call it Bart's Clever Wrench, in May, more than a year after the application was first submitted. Hillman first...
