The 19th annual Pepsi Wyoming State BBQ and Bluegrass Festival brought in 27 barbecue teams to compete in the Kansas City Barbecue Society sanctioned contest with Colorado Bulldawg BBQ, Levi and Jessica Stoakes, winning top honors. Colorado Bulldawg BBQ won the event with 706.24 points, ahead of Piggin' Whiskey in second at 701.66 points and American Heroes (2022 and 2021 champions) with 700.53 points. A comment made to a board member turned into a lengthy discussion during last Thursday’s Hot Springs County School District No. 1 Board meeting. Board member Bethany Webber had a district patron express concern about turnover within the district and board member asked to have the issue on the agenda for “discussion and transparency.” Superintendent Dustin Hunt said the district is not out of line with other businesses in the area. Judith Carolyn Vang, 81, of Glenrock, Wyoming, was welcomed back to her heavenly home on the morning of Aug. 3, 2023 in Casper, Wyoming. In her final day she was surrounded by her loving family who held her hands and recounted memories with tears and laughter all around. Judy was born in Worland, Wyoming on Oct. 3, 1941 to Thomas Bader and Mayme Bader of Ten Sleep, Wyoming, where she grew up with her three sisters -- Sharon Ogg, Deanna Blincow and Glenna Misomelius. Michael James Brown, 69, passed away on August 14, 2023, after being life-flighted to Swedish Medical Center in Englewood, Colorado due to severe burns. He was born to Addison Edgar “Bud” and Ola Elizabeth (Downs) Brown on June 25, 1954, in Worland, Wyoming. He was the youngest of two brothers. For the last two weekends in Washakie County residents and travelers have enjoyed two longtime festivals, one in Ten Sleep and one in Worland. The Wyoming Public Service Commission (PSC) is reviewing a proposed rate increase from Rocky Mountain Power (RMP). The rate increase would impact thousands of Wyoming people and businesses. RMP is the largest utility in Wyoming. Due to the significance of this proposed rate increase, Governor Mark Gordon inquired about additional public hearings, and the PSC has assured him that it plans to hold additional hearings for public comment over the coming weeks. With tournaments in Powell and Cody, the Worland High School golfers had an up-and-down start to their seasons. “It was a mixed bag of results for us,” said WHS golf coach Ben Hofmann. “We had some kids play really well for us. POWELL — The fight over The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints’ new Cody temple is headed to the courts. On Monday, a group of 11 couples and individuals who live near the site sued the City of Cody’s Planning, Zoning and Adjustment Board, asking a judge to overrule the board and reverse its approval of the temple plans. Jason D. Wicks, age 49, of Hillman, Michigan, was arraigned in federal court on August 23, 2023, facing criminal charges of off-trail travel in a Yellowstone National Park thermal area and being under the influence of alcohol or drugs to the degree he was a danger to himself or others. Wicks pleaded not guilty to the charges. As part of the conditions for release, Wicks is banned from Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks until these criminal charges are resolved.
