  • Firefighters respond to small fire in wilderness

    GREYBULL — Bighorn National Forest firefighters responded to a wildfire in the Cloud Peak Wilderness on Aug. 24. A 1/8-acre fire, likely caused by lightning was located ¼-mile east of Granite Lake in the Paint Rock Creek drainage. The fire had burned almost all the available fuels in the area, was smoldering and was surrounded by rock, according to a press release issued Saturday night by the Bighorn National Forest Office in Sheridan.     CHEYENNE — The Research & Planning section of the Wyoming Department of Workforce Services reported last week that the state’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate increased slightly from 3.7 percent in June to 3.8 percent in July (not a statistically significant change). Wyoming’s labor force (the sum of employed and unemployed individuals) fell by 5,984 people (-2.0 percent) from July 2017 to July 2018, a statistically significant decrease.
