  • Write-in nominees fill out Worland City Council races

    There were seven write-in nominations from Tuesday’s primary election with five indicating they will accept the nominations and run for seats in Ward 1 and Ward 2. Heading into the Aug. 20 primary election, no one filed to be on the ballot for the four-year Ward 1 seat. There was a total vote of 49 write-in votes cast, but only two qualified candidates — Bill Glanz and Jeff Pomeroy. Both have accepted the nomination. Bill Glanz received 14 votes, Pomeroy 4 votes.     The filing period for special districts concluded Monday night with two candidates challenging incumbents for the three Washakie County School District No. 1 four-year seats. Washakie County School District No. 1 incumbents Johnathan Hake, Brett Argeris and David R. Tommerup have filed for reelection. Becky Dooley and Shane Seghetti have also filed and will be on the ballot Nov. 5. For Washakie County School District No. 2, the incumbents are all poised for reelection with no challengers.     During the Aug. 26 meeting of the Washakie County School District No. 1 Board of Trustees, staff and students representing Whitehawk Academy, the district’s new alternative high school, voiced excitement about the new school. Superintendent Tawn Argeris reported that the school opened its doors this fall to 16 students of junior and senior standing.     Captain Richard “Rich” Strickler (USN, Retired) passed away on August 14, 2024 at the age of 76 in Jacksonville, Florida. Born on May 22, 1948 in Hastings, Nebraska, Rich grew up in Worland, Wyoming, graduating from Worland High School. He earned a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Wyoming, Laramie. Designated as a Naval Aviator in 1972, Rich dedicated 30 years of service in the United States Navy. John was born on March 30, 1952 in Wheatland, Wyoming to John and Irene (Lipps) Kiser. His family relocated to Worland for a short time in 1954.
