  • Karla's Kolumn: Am I a prude or an individual

    Karla Pomeroy, Editor|Sep 1, 2018

You would think I would become a bigger prude (modest) as I get older but it seems like the opposite is coming true. When I was growing up I had a battle with my mother in making sure she didn't hem my skirts or dresses too short. My mother was from the era where the skirts were right above the knee. No way I was wearing something above the knee. It had to be below the knee - way below if possible. Granted I didn't wear dresses or skirts very often, and that hasn't changed. But I still want...

  • Friends work to provide 'Little Free Library'

    Karla Pomeroy, Editor|Sep 1, 2018

WORLAND — The Friends of the Worland Library are working on setting up a Little Free Library around the community thanks to the generosity of an anonymous donor. Friends of the Library President Kathi Morrison and member Vickie Overcast presented the idea to the Worland City Council last week for approval to put the Little Libraries up at a few of the parks in the community. Morrison said the couple approached the friends about purchasing a Little Library in Worland. The Friends would maintain the Little Library by placing books in the l...

  • Meet Worland's new band teacher

    Cyd Lass, Staff Intern|Sep 1, 2018

WORLAND – With the new school year starting, Washakie County School District 1 is seeing some new faces in the classroom. This year, Worland students have four new faces teaching them. Educators from across the country are now teaching subjects including Middle and High school band, Zach Lempka with elementary physical education (P.E.), Emma Christoffersen for life skills and Stine Turegon as the new speech education teacher. While sad to see old teachers go, the new additions to the c...

  • Commissioners discuss WPLI recommendations

    Marcus Huff, Staff Writer|Sep 1, 2018

WORLAND – Washakie County commissioners will meet Tuesday to hear department reports, and review recommendations made by the county’s Wyoming Public Lands Initiative working group with Hot Springs County commissioners. The original goal of the WPLI group was to reach a consensus as to the use of the wilderness study areas in the county, through public input. The primary areas of concentration in Washakie County include the Honeycombs (located between Ten Sleep and Worland), Cedar Mountain (south of Winchester and shared with Hot Springs Cou...

  • Warriors put the clamps on Panthers in final minutes

    Alex Kuhn, Sports Editor|Sep 1, 2018

WORLAND - The Worland/Powell rivalry never disappoints. Friday night's season opener at Worland High School against the Powell Panthers saw the Warriors come out on top 14-7, in a matchup between the two 3A football rivals. The Warriors were far from perfect in the win but when the game was at its most critical, they made the biggest plays. "We had a lot of young kids stepping, and even some of the older guys were stepping, into new roles. So we had some of the first game jitters," said WHS...

  • Hear Me Out...The most courageous 2018-19 NFL season predictions: The almost playoff teams

    Alex Kuhn, Sports Editor|Sep 1, 2018

I had to expand the “Most courageous 2018-19 NFL season predictions” to a four-parter. You’re welcome. This week is the almost playoff teams, the teams that are going to be on the outside looking in. They’re all talented in some respect but just don’t have the pieces or too many flaws to play January football. But say one of the playoff teams falter or has a soul-crushing injury, this group stands to benefit. Each team’s over/under win total is in parentheses next to their team name as well as...
