Did you know dogs get the hiccups? They do. I didn't realize they could get hiccups either until we got our oldest dog Sarah 15 years ago. She doesn't get them as much now as she did when she was younger but you could tell when she had the hiccups. You'd feel bad for her because it was hard to tell her to hold her breath. We would try to scare her. Then I read that you need to stretch the diaphragm when you have the hiccups so I could get Sarah comfortable and get her to stretch out and give...
WORLAND – The Wyoming Water Development Commission, with sponsorship by the Washakie County and South Big Horn Conservation districts, kicked off a two-year watershed study last week with public meetings in Basin and Worland, to inform the public of the mechanizations and impacts of the study. Officially titled the Middle Big Horn Watershed Level 1 Study, the project physically includes an area of the Middle Big Horn River Watershed in Big Horn, Washakie, Hot Springs and Park counties. According to the WWDC, the watershed “includes the primary...
WORLAND — Weather may delay a street sealing project for the city of Worland. During Tuesday’s Worland city council meeting, Mike Donnell, city engineer representative, reported that the the city has had to make changes to the 2018 GSB Friction Street Sealing Project. The original project was slated to use GSB-88, an environmentally, water-based product used to extend the life of asphalt. GSB-88 works well in warm weather. Donnell said for GSB-88 the temperatures have to be in the 50s and rising. However, temperatures have dropped this wee...
WORLAND – For three years, Washakie County Public Health (WCPH) has held an annual screen-free week for children of the community. Last month they held the event once again. Last year, 60 students spent 16-20 hours screen-free as a way to spend time away from their screens and to focus more on time with family. This year, WCPH saw a rise in numbers with 84 participants. According to WCPH nurse manager, Amanda Heinemeyer, screen-free week is to encourage both kids and parents to turn off their screens and to have quality time together. Participa...
A quarter of the 2018-19 NFL season is in the books and the league has to be celebrating. Ratings are up. (Even though when they were down and the NFL was "doomed," they still dominated the top 10 ratings. But hey there are narratives to spin.) The on the field product is amazing with a new group of young players ushering the league into a new era and not to be diminished, the off the field stories haven't been distracting. The biggest story involving a player and the law was Mychal Kendricks,...
DOUGLAS - The past two weeks the Worland Warriors have found ways to rally in the second half. Against Riverton, on Sept. 28 the Warriors were down 23-12 and won 33-30. Last week in Rawlins, the Warriors trailed 7-0 at the half but won the game 16-7. In Douglas, on Friday, the Warriors found themselves in a 21-0 hole at halftime. But this time the second half magic was nowhere to be found as the Bearcats ran away with the game, winning 42-15 in a matchup between 3A East rivals. By no means were...
