  • New banks on the rise in Worland

    Marcus Huff, Staff Writer|Oct 13, 2018

WORLAND – Big Horn Federal Savings Bank in Worland, located at 1006 Big Horn Avenue, is still in a temporary facility while the former bank building was removed this summer and replaced with a new, upgraded and larger building. Construction is scheduled to be completed by November, by Hughes Truss of Worland, and the bank operations should be fully moved in by January. “The new building should be a pretty good deal,” said Branch Manager Tad DeBolt. “We’re going to have a larger building and technology to prepare us for the next 20 years of...

  • A lifetime in the making: Shell resident publishes book of memoirs

    Tracie Mitchell, Staff Writer|Oct 13, 2018

TEN SLEEP – Longtime Shell resident Mary Flitner has achieved what most people dream of, not only writing a book but also getting her book accepted by the first publisher that she sent it to. Her book "My Ranch Too, a Wyoming Memoir" came out at the beginning of September and is already available in local libraries, book stores and major internet sites. "It was kind of a hobby for a long time. I kept journals since the 1970s just for the fun of it. It was mostly trivia about the weather and s...

  • Better Business Bureau warning: porn scams take a new turn

    Oct 13, 2018

WORLAND — BBB Scam Tracker has been receiving reports of an old scam with a new twist and while some area residents were targeted they did not fall victim to the scam and did not lose any money. “Revenge porn” is the distribution, or threat of distribution, of explicit photos or videos of a victim in order to blackmail them. Sometimes the victim knows the perpetrator, and it’s personal. But often the scammer is a stranger and the goal of the blackmail can be phishing or smishing (to obtain money now), identity theft (to later imperso...

  • Karla's Kolumn: Journalism matters

    Oct 13, 2018

This week the Northern Wyoming Daily News has observed National Newspaper Week by publishing various columns from editors and publishers around the country who have written about the importance of newspapers. This year's theme is "Journalism matters. NOW more than ever." Merriam-Webster has several definitions for journalism including "the collection and editing of news for presentation through the media." The best definition I found was in their second tier of definitions. Journalism is...

  • Worland Warriors drop final home game to No. 1 Torrington 42-14

    Alex Kuhn, Sports Editor|Oct 13, 2018

WORLAND - Senior night did not go as planned for the Worland Warriors football team as they lost their final home game of the season to the Torrington Trailblazers 42-14, Friday night at Worland High School. Worland's (3-4) start wasn't the greatest either, as on their first possession of the game they fumbled the ball and Torrington (7-0) recovered on the Worland 25. The Trailblazers quickly capitalized on the turnover to go up 7-0. Torrington scored the games next two touchdowns, one of which...

  • Hear Me Out...The most courageous 2018-19 NBA predictions

    Alex Kuhn, Sports Editor|Oct 13, 2018

I've never done predictions for the NBA, I'm not sure why either, but now is the time to correct this wrong. Just like with my spot on, perfect, no need to go check, NFL predictions. These NBA predictions will be just as fearless and courageous, and possibly the most daring in all of sports media. I've looked at each team's roster, coach, front office, offseason moves and have come to an accurate gut feeling for each of the NBA's 30 teams. Rather than predict each team's exact record, I'm going...
