CASPER — Wyoming Secretary of State Ed Buchanan is set to assume his judgeship next month, leaving his office with three months remaining on his term. The departure means Wyoming’s top elections official will be gone before the general election in November. It will also mean an interim secretary of state will need to be appointed until the candidate that wins the election takes office in January. Monday afternoon I listened to a nearly hour-long hearing regarding the proposed ambulance station at 603 North Road 11. The hearing was for the sole purpose of the judge listening to arguments regarding the motion to dismiss the petition for review of administrative action filed. What does that mean? WORLAND - Congressional staffers got a firsthand look at industry in the Big Horn Basin - namely agriculture - during a tour in August. Staffers representing Congress members throughout the country met up with county commissioners from Big Horn, Washakie, Park and Hot Springs County for a four-day tour that took them from a bentonite mine to the crown jewel of Wyoming's state park system. WORLAND — Washakie Medical Center has a new board member. The Washakie County Commission recently appointed Worland resident Chuck Glade to the hospital’s oversight board. Located in Worland, Washakie Medical Center is a county-owned building operated by Banner Health. Glade grew up in a farming community “even smaller than Worland” roughly 50 miles west of Des Moines, Iowa. WORLAND — The motto for the Worland High School cross-country team this season is “Rise Above.” In their first meet of the season, that motto was tested and held true as the Worland runners battled a wild array of weather. Competing at the Billings Invitational on Aug. 26, the Warriors and Lady Warriors had to run through a wild stretch of weather filled with a downpour of rain and hail with multiple delays due to lightning and hail. Edward John Gross, III passed away in his home in Worland, Wyoming on August 22, 2022 unexpectedly after a brief illness. Ed was born in Pasadena, California on May 6, 1957, the oldest of five children born to Edward John, Jr. and Marilyn Jean (Brown) Gross. Alma Hopp Bower went home be with her Lord on August 25, 2022. She passed away peacefully at the Worland Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center after living 96 years on this earth. Alma was born on a farm near Melbeta, Nebraska in 1926. She was raised with three brothers and five sisters. The family worked together on the farm and Alma often said she worked very hard in the beet fields as the family labored together in those days prior to current farming practices. Robert Neal Pennock, 58, passed away in his home on August 24, 2022 in Worland, Wyoming. He was born in Riverton, Wyoming, the third of five children born to Alvin Ray and Karan Jo (Goff) Pennock on November 20, 1963. Throughout his life, Rob enjoyed camping and bicycling with friends. He had a passion for cosmetology, excelled in coloring hair and was a phenomenal make-up artist. CODY (WNE) —A raccoon, not a storm, is to blame for Cody’s Aug. 24 power outage, the second time in two years that a raccoon has turned off the lights. The outage lasted for approximately two hours, from roughly midnight to 2 a.m. According to Cody Public Works Director Phillip Bowman, a raccoon entered into the Glendale substation, causing equipment to short out and knocking out all of the circuits. POWELL (WNE) — A Park County Sheriff’s Office deputy shot and killed a suspect who had charged the deputy with a gun Tuesday afternoon after fleeing down a canal road, according to a sheriff’s office release. The incident occurred at 2:56 p.m. and involved a suspect with an active warrant, the release said. The deputy attempted a traffic stop on the suspect, at which time a pursuit ensued. GILLETTE — The sounds of metal against metal rang out Saturday morning, with two-and-a-half pound horseshoes clanking against stakes in the dirt after traveling more than 25 feet in the air. POWELL- The family of Thomas "TG" Howard wanted to make sure they didn't hide his mental illness and depression, listing it as his cause of death in his obituaries.
