  • Washakie County Tourism Board seeks renewal of lodging tax

    WORLAND – First enacted in 1990, Washakie County’s optional lodging tax will once again appear on the ballot Tuesday. The tax is voted on every four years and has been approved every cycle since its introduction, most recently receiving a 75.87% vote in favor of it in 2018.     WORLAND — Washakie County and Wyoming voters will cast their ballots on Tuesday at the very latest. Some have already voted or will vote before the 7 p.m. absentee ballot deadline on Tuesday.     WORLAND – Kurt Johnson sat in on his first meeting as a member of the Washakie Medical Center Hospital Board on Tuesday, Oct 25. Johnson, who was appointed by the county commissioners, was born and raised outside of Minneapolis, Minnesota, in the city of Bloomington. He has a background in education, having earned his doctorate in history and working as a university professor for five years.     NORTH WASHAKIE COUNTY - It was a brisk evening as the fire trucks and ambulances began arriving to the scene just off a major highway in Washakie County. Two minivans carrying a combined 14 passengers had collided. One passenger lay in the roadway, apparently having flown through a front windshield. Of the 14 passengers, two died at the scene.     WORLAND - For the fourth-straight season, the Worland Warriors football season ended at Cody High School as the Broncos eliminated the Warriors from postseason play.     Dorthea Mae Lewis was born on May 17, 1922 to Perle Mortimer Lewis and Bertha Mae Sheesley in Steamboat Springs, Colorado. In May of 2022, she celebrated 100 years of joyful living and passed away peacefully on October 22, 2022 in Newcastle, Wyoming. Dorthea was raised in Ten Sleep, WY. Due to World War II and a shortage of teachers in Wyoming, Dorthea started her teaching career early with just a teacher certification from the Department of Education.     Helen Schoeler, 93, passed away on October 19th, 2022 in Mesa, Arizona. Helen was born on April 2, 1929 in Jamestown, North Dakota. Helen was raised on the family farm outside of Jamestown, North Dakota and was the daughter of Herbert and Grace Vondergeest.
