    As I write this we are waiting for election results but the polls have yet to even close. It is the waiting that is the worst and this year the waiting seems that much harder. Usually it is waiting for the results, waiting for candidates to call back with a comment or two. After 2016, we added waiting for the election fallout. Four years ago there was crying, wailing, gnashing of teeth and pleas for safe rooms. This year we again wait, wait for the tears but people are preparing for things even worse.   • Gill re-elected as Worland mayor

    WORLAND - Worland Mayor Jim Gill won re-election Tuesday night with nearly 67% of the votes. Gill was challenged by Keith McDonald, who accepted a write-in candidacy after the August Primary. Gill received 1,470 votes to McDonald's 694 votes. There were also 32 write-in votes cast, which will not impact the election.     WORLAND – The Washakie County Commissioners listened to a proposal from Cody Regional Health (CRH) representatives about a proposal to have CRH take over the ambulance services in Washakie County during a meeting last Thursday, Oct. 29.     THERMOPOLIS — After all the votes were counted in East Thermopolis there is a tie for one of two council seats. There are two seats open in East Thermopolis and Gary Holbert topped the ticket among three candidates with 57 votes. Jack Kuiper and Bonnie S. Smith tied for the second seat with 48 votes apiece. Results show that one write-in vote was cast. There were also 78 under votes, meaning someone did not cast a vote or the marking was unreadable.     WORLAND — Although they are battling state budget cuts and a pandemic, Children’s Resource Center is continuing to provide all the early development services for young children in Worland and the Big Horn Basin.   • Home fires occurances are up in Wyoming communities

    CASPER — October has been a particularly busy month for the American Red Cross of Wyoming’s Disaster Action Teams (DAT). Since Oct. 1 DAT teams have responded to 13 house fires across the state. Six fires occurred in Cheyenne, three in Casper, two in Powell, and one each in Buffalo, Lander, Rock River, and Torrington. Many of those fires were caused by improper use of heating inside the home.     POWELL — Forward Cody has received a $2.2 million grant from the U.S. Economic Development Administration to support an expansion of Wyoming Legacy Meats in Cody. Along with a $553,108 loan from Pinnacle Bank, the funding will build a new 12,000 square foot expansion, which will be able to process about 75 head per day. The plant is projected to create 50 new jobs, with an average wage of $18 per hour.     Veterans Day activities are set to take place this week, starting with performances by fourth-grade classes from West Side Elementary tonight in the Worland Middle School auditorium.   • Prescribed burns planned this week in Meadowlark area

    Sheridan, Wyo., November 3, 2020 -Bighorn National Forest Supervisor Andrew Johnson announced that several prescribed burns will be conducted this week, depending on favorable weather conditions. These burns are being conducted to reduce fuel loadings, improve wildlife habitat, and increase range forage.
