  • 'A great group of girls'

    Alex Kuhn, Sports Editor|Dec 28, 2017

WORLAND - The third time is the charm. It is hard to beat a team three times in a season. Clichés are well, clichés, but they do often prove to be true, as was the case for the Worland Middle School seventh-grade girls basketball team on Dec. 9 when the Lady Braves hosted the conference tournament. During the regular season, the Lady Braves lost twice, both single-digit losses to Cody. WMS made it all the way to the conference championship game and standing in their way of a title was none o...

  • Wyoming church pledges $100K for suicide prevention funding

    ELISE SCHMELZE, Casper Star-Tribune|Dec 28, 2017

CASPER (AP) — On a Sunday in September, morning light drifted through stained glass as churchgoers in Rock Springs raised their eyes to God. In Basin, a congregation joined voices to sing an opening hymn. In Thermopolis, they bowed their heads, opened their hearts and asked for mercy. Then the prayers — recited in each of those Episcopalian churches — became specific. “God of Mercy, hear our prayer for ourselves, our friends and families who hold painful memories of loss, grief and suicide,” the priests read. “We ask for strength for today,...

    Marcus Huff, Staff Writer|Dec 28, 2017

WASHINTON, DC – On Dec. 20, Representative Liz Cheney (R-WY) introduced a piece of legislation that would amend the Wyoming Wilderness Act of 1984, expanding the definition of authorized recreational uses in Wilderness Study Areas in Teton County, effectively circumventing some recommendations made by the county’s Wyoming Public Lands Initiative (WPLI) working group. Cheney’s proposed amendment, House Resolution 4697, states in part, “all recreational uses occurring within such Wilderness Study Areas on the date before the day of the enactme...

JACKSON (AP) — Wyoming officials say they caught a man with a wolf he’d shot illegally. Wyoming Game and Fish Department warden Jon Stephens says he got a tip in early December about a man pursuing wolf into an off-limits area outside Jackson. Stephens tells the Jackson Hole News & Guide he intercepted the alleged poacher driving his pickup truck. Stephens says the man admitted to the crime after Stephens saw the dead wolf in a box...

  • US stock indexes eke out gains in quiet day on Wall Street

    ALEX VEIGA, AP Business Writer|Dec 28, 2017

U.S. stock indexes capped another quiet day on Wall Street Wednesday with slight gains, recouping some of the market’s modest losses from a day earlier. Technology, health care and industrials stocks accounted for much of the gain. A report showing that pending U.S. home sales inched higher last month helped lift homebuilder shares. Retailers and consumer-goods manufacturers declined the most, following a late-afternoon slide. Energy stocks also fell along with the price of crude oil. Bond yields fell following a report showing U.S. consumer c...
