    The Ten Sleep Recreation District is soliciting bids to tidy up the island near the park along Tensleep Creek, according to a report presented at the Ten Sleep Town Council meeting Sept. 3. The foliage, brush, underbrush and the bushes along the creek and on the island are of particular concern. When the splash pad was installed 12 years ago, the then president, Rachel Casteel, cleared the entire island and planted trees. There were two suggestions for clearing the foliage.     Staff leave policies were a prominent topic once again at the Sept. 9 meeting of the Washakie County School District No. 2 Board of Trustees meeting. This time, the district’s three staff personal leave policies — one each for certified staff, classified staff and the principal — were discussed with the goal of aligning their language.     To shake things up for the Youth Diversion Program, Kassie Nolting, the Youth Diversion director, is bringing in guest speakers during the life skills classes to speak on their experiences and help the students choose a safer path. The first guest speakers in the life skills class were Megan McCoy and Bobbi Douglas. They told of their recovery stories and process of what brought them to the recovery.     The Town of Thermopolis and Hot Springs Sheriff’s Office issued a joint statement Tuesday on an officer-involved shooting that occurred Monday in Thermopolis. On Sept. 9, the Division of Criminal Investigation was contacted by the Thermopolis Police Department and the Hot Springs County Sheriff’s Office.     An educator for 30 years now, teacher Carrie Ryan is returning to West Side Elementary School in the role of a special educator. Ryan began her teaching career in 1994 in Worland before getting an opportunity to work as an adaptive physical education teacher at West Side.     Since premium checks have not been cashed in a timely manner in the past, the Washakie County Fair Board decided to pay premiums with cash instead of checks at their regular meeting on Sept. 9. The board discussed how best to pay the premiums won at the 2024 Washakie County Fair, which are paid at the time youth turn in their record books. The board opted to pay premiums with cash since sometimes youth forget to deposit or cash checks, leaving the funds outstanding in the Fair Board’s books.     There were more than 40 cookie entries for the Wyoming Sugar annual cookie contest as part of the Harvest Hoedown. Winners were Navette Everate in the age 1-12 group; Bridger Arnold in the 13-19 age group and Tabby Scheuerman in the 20 and older group.     There were seven write-in nominations from Tuesday’s primary election with five indicating they will accept the nominations and run for seats in Ward 1 and Ward 2. Heading into the Aug. 20 primary election, no one filed to be on the ballot for the four-year Ward 1 seat. There was a total vote of 49 write-in votes cast, but only two qualified candidates — Bill Glanz and Jeff Pomeroy. Both have accepted the nomination. Bill Glanz received 14 votes, Pomeroy 4 votes.
