One of my favorite movies is the wildly underrated "A Most Violent Year." During one point in the film protagonist Abel Morales is asked why he keeps pushing so hard for a property deal while there are so many negatives surrounding him like being investigated by the district attorney, threats against him and his family and rival competitors. Morales calmly responds with this line, "When it feels scary to jump, that is exactly when you jump, otherwise you end up staying in the same place your...

There are a lot of misconceptions we learned as kids like Christopher Columbus discovered America, cracking your knuckles leads to arthritis, or hosting the Olympics will lead to an economic boon for the host city. The truth is Columbus was a dope who couldn't read a map, there is no link between cracking your knuckles and arthritis, and the Olympics do not elevate the host city into an economic golden age. The International Olympics Committee (IOC) does a tremendous job in selling the lie that...

SHERIDAN -Grit and heart have been a staple of the Worland Lady Warriors soccer team all season long and it was on full display in their 4-3 loss to Jackson for the 3A girls soccer championship Saturday afternoon. Each team started the match with nerves, neither team could keep possession for long and when there were shots on goal they were well off the mark. The nerves settled as Jackson scored the match's first goal to take 1-0 lead. The Lady Warriors tried to answer with a goal of their own b...

SHERIDAN - The Worland Lady Warriors wasted little time in dispatching the Newcastle Lady Dogies winning 6-0 Saturday afternoon. Often times matches like these can be traps for talented teams like the Worland team, teams will get caught looking ahead to that championship match and forget to take care of business. Not so for these Lady Warriors as they put their foot to the floor and never looked back. Sophomore Casey Wassum got it rolling for her team scoring the match's first goal, then...

The NFL is the most frustrating professional American league in the whole country. Who else puts forth such a beloved product while also having the largest collection of sleezballs running the operation? Trick question, the NCAA has America's highest terrific product to scumbag suits ratio, but the NFL is a close second. Don't fret this is not another 900-plus words on Deflategate, as tempting as that may be, this is about the 32 NFL owners in their desperate attempt to okey-doke everyone into...
SHERIDAN - The Worland Lady Warriors took down Star Valley by a score of 5-2 in the quarterfinals of the 3A State Soccer Tournament and advance to the state semifinals today in Sheridan. Worland's first and second halves would be like comparing the day to the night. The first half was owned by Star Valley as they outshot the Lady Warriors nine to six and were the more forceful team dictating the match. A goal by sophomore Casey Wassum knotted the score up at 1-1 heading into halftime. During...

The hero's journey is the most common plot type in film and with good reason. What's not to love about a seemingly ordinary person battling through adversity to achieve a goal that's said to be unattainable. It's why movies like "Star Wars" or "The Wizard of Oz" are so loved, normal people rising to the challenge. For as great as these stories are, they're scripted. Luke was supposed to bring down The Empire and Dorthy was supposed to defeat the Wicked Witch of the West. The hero's journeys...

WORLAND- Warriors and Lady Warriors JV soccer coaches Chris Klinghagen and Brianna Schefferly started the soccer season with a rather inexperienced group of players. But by season's end both coaches were impressed with the growth and improvement from their teams. "At the start of the season they were playing recreational soccer but by the end of the season they knew where the defense needed to slide, how to make connections on passing and make crosses the varsity could make. Their soccer IQ has...
After Game 1 of the Western Conference finals between the Golden State Warriors and Oklahoma City Thunder, in which the Thunder pulled off a stunning win. There was a lot of media induced panic surrounding the Warriors and if their historic season would come to a shocking end at the hands the Thunder. The buildup around Game 2 and the common talking-head topic was this would be a "must-win" for Golden State. Lost in all the "The sky is falling!" rhetoric is the Warriors are an insanely great...
