Tactical errors are a part of sports. A perfectly executed game plan by two opposing coaches would be fun to watch, once, but after that, it’d get quite boring. Human error or miscalculations are what adds to the excitement. There’s no entertainment value in watching computers play chess. (Although, we might not be far off from the robot apocalypse if those goons at Google and Facebook don’t knock it off with their A.I. experiments.) The only reason I got to thinking about bad tactics in sports was because of the latest “Game of Thrones... Full story
WORLAND - The last time the No. 1-ranked Worland Warriors soccer team lost to a 3A team was in 2017, a 3-1 loss to Lander in the 3A State third-place match. The last time the Warriors lost a match was to the 4A Green River Wolves by way of a 4-2 shootout on April 8, 2018. Since then the Warriors have ripped off 24-straight victories, which included a state title mixed in there. Last week Worland entered one of the more challenging stretches of their 2019 schedule as they had to play three matche... Full story

This is 100 percent recency-bias in play but last week may have been the greatest week in entertainment history. You had the "Avengers Endgame" and Game of Thrones S8E3 "The Long Night," the two biggest properties of the decade in film and TV reaching long promised moments. Obviously, it was a big weekend for Thrones, Avengers and the Tractor Guys. Maybe it was just the Sunday 3:30 showing at the Washakie Twin Cinemas but the Tractor Guys won BIG because their ad was playing on a loop until the... Full story

TEN SLEEP - Coming into the 2019 track and field season Ten Sleep High School track and field coach Desiree Egger knew seniors Kinley Erickson and Kelli Holiday were going to be the team's top point scorers this year. That has held true to this point in the season, but what is also exciting for Egger and Ten Sleep has been how quickly sophomores Lindsey Holiday, Elizabeth Lungren and Boe Nichols have come along. Lungren won the 300 hurdles and finished second in the 100-meter dash during the... Full story
I know the NBA is powered by its superstars. That's never been a secret and it's the model that works for a league with an 82-game season and four best-of-seven playoff rounds. But I think if we threw in an eccentric coach along the lines of a Jon Gruden-type it would add to the league's entertainment value. Now, this isn't because I'm trying to help out the NBA TV ratings. Honestly, when it comes to TV ratings, I've officially moved into the camp of who cares? TV ratings are a lot like the... Full story
LARAMIE - When they arrived at the University of Wyoming, Andrew Wingard and Carl Granderson were just names on a roster. Little was known about them, and not much was expected of them outside of the coaches who recruited them. They were underdogs. Wingard, Granderson and a handful of other former UW players are in that same situation this week as the NFL draft starts today and concludes Saturday in Nashville, Tennessee. They just want a chance to show what they can do at the ultimate level of... Full story

One of the more entertaining things about social media, while also slightly annoying, is the pushback. No matter the topic, person or place, there is always going to be a pushback. Then you can expect pushback to that pushback, followed by more pushback to the pushback's pushback. It's a good ole' pushback paradox. Tiger Woods' snapping his 11-year major drought is excellent proof of the pushback paradox. When Tiger claimed his fifth Master's and 15th career major victory last Sunday there was... Full story

Trying to save some words, so I'm going to make this intro quick. The NBA playoffs start this week and with this weather storm bumping up our deadline. I'm not going to be able to breakdown each playoff matchup because seeding was still up in the air as I was writing this. (If Detroit gets eliminated, they're forever dead to me and I hope all the bad sports things happen to them and only them.) Instead, I broke down the 16 remaining teams into five categories, which are all pretty... Full story
