WORLAND - At long last, the postseason is here for the No. 2-ranked Worland Warrior wrestlers. All the season's hard work will be for these final two weeks of the 2017-18 season. The 3A State tournament is the ultimate prize but first, the Warriors will need to lock-in on the 3A East regional tournament, to which they are hosting this Friday and Saturday at Worland High School. Last week the Warriors went 2-0 during the Bobcat Invitational dual but had their senior night match vs. Buffalo...
TEN SLEEP - Adversity has been a part of the Ten Sleep Pioneers basketball 2017-18 campaign all season long. Having only seven players on the roster was tough enough, then the team was hit with the injury-bug that caused them to forfeit a few games in January. Jump ahead a few weeks and the Pioneers are back in business with a healthy roster. Friday, with all seven players suiting up, the Pioneers grabbed their first win of 2018 since December 2017 by defeating the Dubois Rams 72-51. "It helps...
RAWLINS - It was hard fought with some tense moments but the Worland Lady Warriors were able to collect their third straight win with a 45-40 win over the Rawlins Lady Outlaws Friday night at Rawlins High School. Senior Jaycee Page led the Lady Warriors in scoring with 13 points and junior Payton McEndree had eight points off the bench. Since last Saturday the sports world has had plenty of buzz and entertaining stories flying around. Picking one for this week’s column is tough and I’m not feeling a column buffet this week, per se. So it comes down to finding one good story to write about. There was the Philadelphia Eagles Super Bowl victory over the New England Patriots in which Eagles head coach Doug Pederson outmaneuvered Pats head coach Bill Belichick at every turn. Nah, that’s been talked about enough and there isn’t much to say about the Super Bowl, other than if you...

LARAMIE – The roles are reversed as the University of Wyoming men’s basketball team hosts Utah State at 7 p.m. today at Arena-Auditorium. On Jan. 20, UW was coming off a bye week as it headed into its game at Utah State. Thanks to a strong first half and a resilient second half, UW escaped with an 85-77 victory. Heading into tonight’s game, Utah State (13-11 overall, 6-5 Mountain West) is riding a three-game winning streak and hasn’t lost since that home setback to UW. The Aggies also are coming off a bye week. For UW (15-8, 6-4) to avoid c...
WHEATLAND - Not every win is going to be pretty. Some wins come on bad nights when nothing goes right, but those types of wins where a team finds the mental strength to power through can be the catalyst for something greater. The Worland Warriors basketball team found themselves in such a situation Saturday at Wheatland High School. Playing poorly on both ends of the court, the Warriors used a 22-10 fourth quarter to defeat the Bulldogs 50-48. For the young team, it was a big win, especially...
Awards season for the motions pictures is in full swing and last week the Oscar nominations for the 90th Academy Awards were announced. Disappointingly, there wasn’t a ton of backlash to the nominations. Usually, you have a bunch of people up in arms over movies they’ve never watched, this year everyone seemed pretty chill. There was the push to have “Wonder Woman” as an Oscar snub, which was a stretch. Awesome superhero movie? No doubt. One of the most entertaining movies of 2017? 100 percent. Made Marvel look foolish for never greenli...
TORRINGTON - The Worland Lady Warriors have been looking to find their offensive flow most of the season and during this week's practice that mission was dealt a setback with an injury to starting sophomore guard BreAnna Parra, the team's leading scorer at 7.3 points per game. Friday night in Torrington the Lady Warriors (3-9 overall, 0-3 3A East: West division) played in their first game without Parra against the Lady Trailblazers. WORLAND - Coming off a stinging 67-36 loss to No. 1-ranked Buffalo the night before, the Worland Warriors basketball team had to regroup Saturday as they hosted the Powell Panthers. After not cracking the 40-point mark the past two games the Warriors offense came alive as they routed the Panthers 68-41. The theme of Saturday's victory for Worland (4-7 overall, 1-2 in 3A East: West division) was their defense lifting up their offense. The Warriors forced the Panthers (4-8, 0-3 in 3A East: West...
Football is dead to me. Life is meaningless. All there is to existence is the forsaken black abyss. That clinically depressed donkey from "Winnie the Pooh" nailed the human experience. ... ... ... Blah. Shaking out of it. My beloved Jacksonville Jaguars 24-20 loss to the Patriots still stings. So close to the Super Bowl, if two plays go the Jags way we're having a different conversation and my happy-go-lucky disposition is back. But to quote one of my favorite shows of all-time, "The Wire,"...
BUFFALO - The fourth quarter demons came back to haunt the Worland Lady Warriors Friday night in a 3A girls basketball matchup with the No. 3-ranked Buffalo Lady Bison that ended in a 39-35 loss, at Buffalo High School. "Defensively, we were really, really good. We nearly executed our defensive game plan to perfection. We defended against one of the better point guards in 3A, in Kaydin Davis, I thought we did a good job of closing out on her and not giving her any good looks. Offensively, for th...

WORLAND - As it stands now, the Hot Springs Lady Bobcats basketball team sits third in the 3A East-West division standings. Last week the Lady Bobcats beat Worland, in overtime, 53-48 Thursday night, and then the following day lost to No. 3-ranked Buffalo 75-37. Following up a big victory with a 38-point loss is not ideal but the Lady 'Cats (6-7 overall, 1-1 in 3A East-West division) are in position to take command of the No. 2 spot in the division, they host the Rawlins Lady Outlaws (6-6...
TEN SLEEP - It was a strange and trying week for the Ten Sleep Lady Pioneers basketball team. An injury and sickness left the six-player team shorthanded for their two games last week against 1A Northwest conference rivals Meeteetse and Dubois, both of which resulted in losses. "It was just an odd weekend," said TSHS girls basketball coach Sarah Novak. In their 33-19 home loss to Meeteetse, the Lady Pioneers were without sophomore point guard, and leading scorer, Bryley Moore due to sickness....
The Divisional round started with a dud but after that, the games got better and better, until bang, we were given one of the craziest, is this real life, plays in NFL playoff history. When Blake Bortles threw that pass to fullback Tommy Bohanon... I kid. Of course, I'm talking about the "Minneapolis Miracle." Being completely honest, I didn't watch the second half of Vikings-Saints game live. After the Vikings went up 17-0, I thought that was a wrap for the Saints and went to watch "Jumanji: We...
WORLAND -Friday night's game against No. 4 Rawlins started out very promising for the Worland Warriors basketball team. The Warriors were able to execute their game plan against one of 3A's tallest teams for most of the first quarter, and if not for a few bad bounces could have held the lead at the end of the first quarter. Instead, the Warriors trailed the Outlaws 11-10. The Warriors continued to battle for most of the second quarter and with 3:26 left in the second quarter Rawlins called a tim...
THERMOPOLIS — It was a defensive basketball game between the Hot Springs County Lady Bobcats and the Worland Lady Warriors and the contest needed overtime to be decided. The Lady Bobcats were able to make enough plays with the extra time to pull out a 53-48 victory over the Lady Warriors Thursday night at Hot Springs County High School. “For turning it over as many times as we did, losing the three starters, I was just tickled that we pulled it out. I’ve coached a lot of years and I told them...
