    Alex Kuhn, Sports Editor|Jan 18, 2017

WORLAND - The Worland High School wrestling team has been facing a lot of tough competition this season, often wrestling against 4A schools or the large schools in South Dakota, Nebraska, Colorado, Idaho and Utah. And for WHS wrestling coach Josh Garcia he wouldn't have it any other way. Last weekend the Warriors traveled to Green River for a dual tournament and while the scores were not in Worland's favor coach Garcia was proud of his kids and their outing. "We did do a pretty decent job, it's...

  • Lady Bobcats improving at the start of conference play

    Alex Kuhn, Sports Editor|Jan 17, 2017

THERMOPOLIS - Sometimes the best way for a team to measure improvement is to go against teams that had your number earlier in the season. For the Hot Springs County High School girls basketball team they did just that in games against the Lander Lady Tigers Friday and the Lovell Lady Bulldogs Saturday night. While the Lady Bobcats fell in both contests they showed how far they've come in a short amount of time. Playing Lander on Dec. 16, the Lady 'Cats fell 55-29. On Friday at Lander High...

Seniors Bailey Gibbons and Charlee Townsend led the way for the Lady Warriors (5-4) scoring with 17 and 11 points, respectively. I thought our kids wrestled really well and had some kids step up into our lineup....

NFL fans we made it through a mediocre NFL season and for our struggle we’ve been rewarded with the ugliest NFL Wildcard round in recent memory. Being truthful it was naïve to think after this stinkfest of an NFL season we’d at least have decent playoffs. This weekend’s games are eyesore and coma-inducing matchups. There is one good game in the entire Wildcard slate and that’s New York at Green Bay. Nevertheless I’m going to power through these awful games and give you the most heroic playoff predictions you will read in print or on the World...

  • One hand helping the other

    Scott Nulph, WyoSports|Jan 4, 2017

LARAMIE – The University of Wyoming women's basketball team is all about helping this season. And the Cowgirls' offense is receiving some unexpected help from the other side of the court. UW (10-3 overall, 2-0 Mountain West) enters this week ranked second in the conference and No. 22 nationally in points allowed at 54.1 per game. The obvious result of that number is the opposition is scoring less. But UW's improved defensive play appears to be helping with the offense as well. The Cowgirls, d...

  • Defending home court

    Scott Nulph, WyoSports|Jan 3, 2017

LARAMIE – When a basketball team is playing with as much defensive confidence as the University of Wyoming women's team, even when things break down occasionally there's little panic. The Cowgirls dominated UNLV on Saturday in their Mountain West home opener 79-57 at Arena-Auditorium, building a double-digit lead in the first quarter and leading by 20 at halftime. Yet twice in the second half – at the beginning of the third and fourth quarters – UNLV made serious runs against UW, pulling withi...

  • 2016 sports year in review

    Dec 31, 2016

A GAME FOR THE AGES On Saturday, the Lady Warriors found themselves right where they expected to be – playing for a state championship. And as they might have also expected, it would take the most hard-fought 32 minutes of their season as they faced Star Valley to decide who would take hold of the 3A girls basketball crown. Worland (25-1 overall) trailed by two points at halftime and four heading into the fourth quarter, but came alive in the final eight minutes as it outscored Star Valley (...

  • Cowboys look to build consistency heading into 2017

    Alex Kuhn, Sports Editor|Dec 28, 2016

LARAMIE – There were a lot of firsts and unexpected happenings for the University of Wyoming football program in 2016, most of which were good. But as the Cowboys look ahead to 2017, the biggest task for coach Craig Bohl and his staff is to keep it going, which has been difficult for the better part of 20 years. UW has not has back-to-back seasons with better than .500 records since 1998-99. It also hasn't played in bowl games in consecutive years since 1987-88. After an 8-6 record in 2016, a M...

  • Young Rebels picking up valuable experience

    Alex Kuhn, Sports Editor|Dec 27, 2016

BASIN - Rebuilding years are always a taxing endeavor and it has been no different for the Riverside High School (0-2) boys basketball team but for these young Rebels they're still going to give maximum effort each time they step on the court. The Rebels opened their season at the Shoshoni Canyon Classic on Dec. 15-16 against 1A Saratoga and 1A Dubois. With only 10 players on the roster, two of which are upperclassmen, senior Michael Wildman and junior Justen Miller, and the rest underclassmen,...
