Lifelong resident Joyce Katherine Steers, 92, passed away on July 29, 2015 in Worland. Joyce was born on April 5, 1923 in Worland to Rose Lee (Stewart) and Theron Clay Gibbons. She was raised in the Colter area southwest of Worland and graduated from Washakie County High School in 1941.
Joyce attended a business college in Great Falls, MT, then moved to Hollywood, CA where she took professional voice lessons.
Joyce met Blaine L. Steers while he was working at the local radio station and she was there to sing "live" on the air. They were married on January 1, 1948 in Worland, WY. He passed away in 1990.
She had worked in Worland for the Washakie County Clerk, then as the head of the local Selective Service Board for several years. She and her daughter Tammy owned and operated a retail store, Denim Tree and Shirt Shack for several years.
Joyce was active as a lifelong member of the First Baptist Church, was a library volunteer worker, and was a member of the Worland Hospital Auxiliary.
She was preceded in death by her parents; by her husband; by her siblings Terrill Gibbons, Roger Gibbons and Miriam Coryell; and by her granddaughter Dawn Carpenter.
Joyce is survived by her daughters Tammy (Dale) Anderson of Worland and Gina (Everett Walsh) Steers of Gilbert, Arizona; by her grandchildren Shane (Daleen) Anderson and Janelle (Ken Paulsen) Anderson of Worland, WY and Shawna (Kay) Chandler and Jerry Carpenter of Cody, WY; and by her great grandchildren Kelsie, Kalie, Keaton, McKenna, Sheldon, Aubrey, Taden and Tatiana. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will celebrate her life on Thursday, August 6, 2015 at 2:00pm at the First Baptist Church in Worland.
Memorials may be made to either the First Baptist Church or to the Worland Hospital Auxiliary.
