Steer price tops $9,000 at Washakie County Junior Livestock Sale

WORLAND-With Washakie County Fair week in the rearview mirror, results from the Junior Livestock sale were released by the University of Wyoming Extension Office in Worland yesterday.

"I think we have a very supportive community that is very generous to the youth of our community," said 4-H Youth Educator Amber Armajo. "The building was packed. We had lots of local people and people from out of town. Last year we sold 92 head and this year we sold 104. Our averages (prices) were up, or at least maintaining from last year."

A steer at the event sold for $6.50 per pound, totaling $9,009 in all. The steer was the most expensive animal sold at the event.

The average prices of animals at the sale were as follows:

Beef: $3.50/lb.

Sheep: $7.84/lb.

Swine: $5.45/lb.

Goats: $7.84/lb.

Rabbits: $375/head

Poultry: $353/head; included turkey and chickens

The top prices for each livestock animal sold were as follows:

Beef: $6.50/lb.

Sheep: $30/lb.

Swine: $17.25/lb.

Goats: $800/head.

Rabbits: $375/head.

Poultry: $750/head (turkey).
