Serving the Big Horn Basin for over 100 years
Tommy Lynn Bunnell, 65, was bourne out of the Blizzard of 1949 that ravaged the Great Plains.
The little town of Hereford, Colorado in eastern Colorado where Tommy would have calledhome was hit hard. On a hill over looking Crow Creek, the Bunnell family had resided in their Frank Lloyd Wright designed home with massive ranch covering thousands of acres. Tom would never live in that home on the range with his two older brothers.
Tom was born on November 14, 1949 in Greeley, Colorado to Delbert Ashby and Wanda Margrete Rank- Bunnell. By the time he was born, his father, Delbert Ashby Bunnell, would be the new Hudson car dealer in town. Tommy would join his two young sibling brothers Ronnie Dale and Teddy Allen in Greeley. Very soon, Tom’s parents would separate leaving Tom with his father and two brothers. When Tommy was five, his father Delbert, who was then 65 years old, would pass away.
Within a few years, Tommy was adopted by the family of older half-brother Orval and Mildred Bunnell in Worland, Wyoming. Tom thought of them as mom and dad. His High School years were spent and completed at St. John’s Military Academy in Salina, Kansas where he graduated with honors. He would soon enlist in the US Army where he served and was honorably discharged.
Tom was never married, although he tried it for a few weeks before the marriage was annulled. Most of his years were spent in Gillette and Worland, Wyoming where he worked as he felt necessary. Tom communicated only via texting in the last years of his life because he could notspeak. Throat cancer had taken its toll. Memorials can be given to the American Cancer Society.
Tom is survived by one full brother, Ron Bunnell of Rapid City, SD and two half brothers; Ed Kobobel of Thornton, CO and Doug Kobobel of Decatur, AL; and a half sister, Mari Kobobel of Beaumont, TX. He was preceded in death Delbert Bunnell, father; Wanda Rank-Bunnell, mother; Ted Bunnell, brother; Orval (Doc) Bunnell, half-brother; Hugh Bunnell, half-brother; and Dorothy Bunnell-Bubar, half-sister.
Tom died at his home in Worland, Wyoming on August 1, 2014. No services are planned.
