Irene passed away Thursday, October, 1, 2015 at Worland Healthcare and Rehabilitation where she had resided since March, 2015.
Irene, one of eleven children, was born on August 16, 1920 in Pine Hill, Texas to William Homer and Ida York McGraw. Upon graduation from high school she moved to Kansas City, Missouri where she worked as a waitress. A handsome young valet frequented Irene's place of employment, eventually requesting a date with her, to which she agreed. However, soon after that, Irene decided to move back to her hometown in Texas. Fay didn't give up; he showed up on her parents' front porch requesting Irene's hand in marriage to which she finally agreed. Fay and Irene were married on November 21, 1941 in Kansas City where they made their home until Fay was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1942. He served with the 16th Armored Division in Europe.
After Fay's discharge from the Army, he returned to Kansas City where he and Irene owned and operated a service station until moving to Worland in 1954. They leased the Phillips 66 gas station and operated it until purchasing the Carter Station, which later became the Exxon Station. Irene served as the bookkeeper for their business until they retired in 1973.
Upon retirement, Irene and Fay spent the winters in Yuma, AZ and summers in Worland. Together they enjoyed golfing, playing cards with friends, traveling and enjoying their kids and grandkids. Irene was a member of the Worland Soroptimist Club, Homemakers, a Red Cross Volunteer and was a member of the hospital auxiliary formerly known as "Grey Ladies". She also enjoyed her church family, volunteering in many aspects of the church.
Irene was preceded in death by her husband, Fay, on July 31, 2002 as well as her parents and several siblings.
She is survived by her children Janice Alexander of Amarillo, Texas; Jerry Alexander of Worland, Marilynn (Frank) St Clair of Worland and Duane (Terri) Alexander of Longview, Washington.
