Wayne Meier

Reverend Wayne Meier, 85, died October 4, 2015 in Thermopolis, WY at Hot Springs County Memorial Hospital.

Born in 1930 in Kansas, he was the son of Harold and Lillie Meier. From 1951-’57 he served in the US Army.

In 1954 Wayne married Verla Detmer in Lincoln, Kansas. For a time he was a wheat farmer but heard God’s calling to the ministry. Graduating from seminary in 1965 he served Plymouth and Beatrice, NE, Woodworth, IL, then served his Lutheran congregants 40 years in Thermopolis, WY.

He also owned and operated Pumpernicks Restaurant 16 years and drove bus for the school district for many years. Wayne was an avid sports fan.

Survivors include his wife of 61 years; sons, Gregory, Kevin, Dennis, Lester and Wesley; daughter, Michelle McCawley; 16 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren; brother, Harlan and sisters, Phyllis, Carolyn, Charlene and Sharon. His parents and brothers, Jerry and David preceded him in death.

Memorial services will be Saturday, October 10, at Community Church with sons, Lester and Pastor Kevin Meier officiating.

Memorials may be given to the Gideons or People for People in Thermopolis.
