Serving the Big Horn Basin for over 100 years

Katherine Helen Anderson

Katherine Helen Anderson, 65, passed away at Wyoming Retirement Home in Basin, Wyoming on October 21, 2015.

Katherine was born on March 12, 1950 to Emerson Griffith and Dorthy Janet (Ownbey) Anderson in Torrington, WY. She grew up in Torrington. Because of her disability, she was taught at home. She was taught to read by her brothers Ken and Neil. In her mother's words, "We were blessed with eight children of whom I'm very proud, especially Katherine who gave our whole family a better outlook on life."

She liked making latch hook rugs and doing paint by number pictures. She was the family's verbal TV guide as she always knew what was on TV. After she moved to Worland, she would look in the newspaper for family names and for pictures of people she had met. She would cut out their pictures and names and put them in her book to keep. She loved to make calendars keeping track of everyone's birthday and anniversaries.

After her dad's retirement, the family relocated to Laramie until they moved to Worland in 1995 to be closer to Mahlon's family. Katherine lived her last six months at Wyoming Retirement Center in Basin, where she was loving cared for.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Survivors include her brothers, Erling (Cathy) Anderson of Lynnwood, WA; Verne (Linda) Anderson of Reedley, CA; Larry (DeeDee) Anderson of Torrington, WY; Mahlon (Kathy) Anderson of Worland, WY; Neil (Linda) Anderson of Cody, WY; Kenneth (Kay) Anderson of Lakewood, CO; one sister, Eloise (Larry) Barker of Littleton, CO, and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.

Funeral Services will be held 10:00 a.m. Monday, October 26, 2015 at Big Horn Independent Baptist Church with Pastor Ken Evans officiating. Burial will follow at Riverview Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
