Serving the Big Horn Basin for over 100 years
Doyal Waterworth, age 90, of Greybull, Wyoming passed away Saturday, November 7, 2015 at the Bonnie Bluejacket Memorial Nursing Home between Greybull and Basin, Wyoming.
Born May 16, 1925 in Competition, Missouri, Doyal was the fifth child of William Earl and Naomi (Kincheloe) Waterworth. Doyal and his ten brothers and sisters grew up in southern Missouri and western Iowa. Doyal worked on the family farm and attended school in Hastings, Iowa until he graduated.
After graduation, Doyal quickly enlisted to follow two of his brothers who were already fighting in WWII. He joined the United States Navy and served in the southern Pacific Ocean on a Destroyer Escort, the USS Reynolds. After the war, he came back to the States and met and married the love of his life, Lorain Smith on April 8, 1950 in California, and a year later they became parents.
Doyal was a very generous man and was proud of his military service. After working as a truck driver, a telephone lineman, transporting ammunition in the Southwestern States, selling insurance, and a few other jobs, Doyal found his calling as a farm equipment salesman (primarily John Deere) for 33 years. He had a personality that made people feel as though they had known him all of their lives. This trait helped him prosper in the business.
After living and raising a family in various places across the Midwest, Doyal and Lorain moved to Greybull, Wyoming to be close to their children and grandchildren and where he retired. He spent the rest of his days with the love of his life and enjoyed his grandchildren and his great-grandchildren.
Doyal is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Lorain Waterworth in April 2013; 5 sisters; and 3 brothers.
Doyal is survived by his brother, James Waterworth of Arizona; his sister, Joanne Baslee of Missouri; his daughter, Linda Patrick and husband, Gary of Greybull, Wyoming; his son, Doyal Waterworth and wife, Cari of Worland, Wyoming; 6 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren and 1 on the way.
