Serving the Big Horn Basin for over 100 years

Kenneth D. Saunders

Longtime Manderson resident, Kenneth D. Saunders, 75, passed away on Friday, November 13, 2015 at South Big Horn Critical Access Hospital.

Ken was born on February 28, 1940 in Interior, South Dakota, a son of Dewain L. and Margaret Luella (Beed) Saunders. He was raised on his family's farm and attended schools at Interior. After high school graduation he followed his dream of becoming a truck driver. He drove trucks moving oil rigs, working in construction and was an over-the-road big rig driver. In later years he down-sized by driving for ranchers and hauling sugar beets.

He married Lynn Walker and to that union a daughter, Shelly Saunders, was born. The couple later divorced. Ken then married Helen Study on September 4, 1980 at Thermopolis, WY.

He loved to go catfish fishing in the Nowood River with his wife when he wasn't working. He also like to work with his computer at home where he also was able to enjoy his family, especially his grandkids.

Ken is survived by his wife Helen M. Saunders of Manderson, WY; by his children Shelly (Rick) Burkhart of Dakota City, NE and Chris (Thea) Saunders of Whiteville, NC. He is also survived by his step-children who he loved like his own: Ron (Echo) Study and Gene Study of Worland, WY; Henry (Renea) Study of Newcastle, WY; Sherry Showalter of Pine Haven, WY; Melissa Goldsberry and Travis (Brenda) Study of Manderson, WY. He is also survived by his sister Shirley (Fred) Lantinis of Lander, WY and by 13 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

At Ken's request, there will be no formal funeral services. Cremation has taken place, and Veile Mortuary of Worland assisted the family with the arrangements.
