Serving the Big Horn Basin for over 100 years
WORLAND – The Worland cross-country team will be hosting its annual race on Thanksgiving Day once again, more commonly known as the Gobble Wobble. And in its eighth year, Worland cross-country coach Tanya Kienlen and her team are hoping the race continues to be a continued success.
Mother Nature may get in the way of that this year, though.
A significant winter storm is expected to hit Worland on Wednesday and continue through Thanksgiving Day, bringing snow and much colder temperatures struggling to reach the single digits.
Kienlen has seen the forecast and planned accordingly, though. If there is a lot of snow or it is as cold as projected, the race will be moved to Worland High School where it will be run indoors.
“I’ll put up a sign at the bike path that morning if we move locations, but hopefully the weather people will be wrong and it can snow a few days late,” said Kienlen.
There will be three separate events to participate in: a two-mile run, four-mile run and a two-mile walk – something Kienlen wanted to emphasize for those who might have thought it was only a run.
Registration will be held from 10 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Thursday morning with all events beginning at 10:30.
The race costs $10 per person or whole families can sign up for $20 altogether.
The winners in each race will receive pumpkin pies and turkeys. Various prizes and treats will also be handed out to finishers as the cross the finish line.
“There will be some competitive runners, but the event is going to be a fun atmosphere and a time to gather with friends and family and be thankful. This is a great way to start the day – a little bit of exercise before a yummy dinner,” added Kienlen.
All proceeds will go to the Worland cross-country team to help cover meal costs, running motivation prizes, gifts, camps, etc.
