Gingerbread contest at the Washakie County Library

WORLAND – Building a Gingerbread house is something that many families do together during the Christmas season. The Friends of the Worland Library would like people to showcase their building skills this year for the 5th annual Gingerbread contest at the Washakie County Library located at 1019 Coburn Ave. in Worland.

“This event fills the Worland Library with holiday spirit and a wonderful aroma! It was amazing to see the people, families, dads, teachers, and more who made the effort to stop by and see the houses last year and support their gingerbread artist,” Washakie County Library Director Karen Funk said.

There will be three different categories:

—Pee Wee, ages 10 and under who can create their gingerbread house out of either gingerbread or graham crackers. All entries need to be attached to a base no larger than 18 inches by 18 inches.

—Ages 11- 18, a gingerbread structure such as a house, castle, train or any other structure that has walls and a roof. All entries need to be attached to a base no larger than 24 inches by 18 inches.

—Age 19 and up, a gingerbread structure such as a house, castle, train or any other structure that has walls and a roof. All entries need to be attached to a base no larger than 24 inches by 18 inches.

The gingerbread structures need to be delivered to the library by 5 p.m. Monday to get the most exposure as the library patrons will be voting daily on their favorite structure from Tuesday, Dec. 8 through Saturday, Dec. 12.

“Voting will be done by the library patrons who can go in and vote for each category every day,” Friends of the Worland Library President Kathi Morrison said.

“If they don’t make it by 5 p.m. Monday, if they bring it in on Tuesday that will be fine. We are not going to turn anyone away if they are late,” Funk said.

Each category will have prizes for the top three entrants.
