WHP to post impaired drivers to social media

CHEYENNE — The Wyoming Highway Patrol will be conducting an impaired driving and traffic safety campaign over the New Year’s weekend utilizing social media. The campaign is titled #DoNotGetHashtaggedByWHP.

The concept is to deter motorists from driving impaired and to practice safe driving habits over the holiday weekend by posting up-to-date WHP DUI arrests and other safety related traffic stops from around the state using the hashtag #DoNotGetHashtaggedByWHP.

According to WHP Sgt. Dave Wagener of Wyoming Highway Patrol Public Relations and Recruitment, “The goal is to reduce impaired driving, impaired driving crashes and to increase safe driving habits so motorists don’t get “hashtagged” by us with their arrest or traffic stops getting posted on our Facebook and Twitter accounts.”

The campaign will also give social media viewers the opportunity to get a better picture of what Wyoming State Troopers, Dispatchers and Port of Entry Officers do on a day-to-day basis, Wagener said.

This campaign will also coincide with a DUI Regional Task Force taking place on New Year’s Eve with Cheyenne area Law Enforcement as well as Troopers utilizing federal highway safety grant DUI enforcement overtime statewide.

“So drive safe, designate a sober driver and don’t get hashtagged by the Wyoming Highway Patrol this New Year’s weekend,” Wagener said.
