Twenty Worland students part of Wyoming All State Marching Band

WORLAND – The Worland members of the Wyoming All State Marching Band will be in the Tournament of Roses Parade in Pasadena, Calif. Friday. This will be their 13th time as a band and the trip will be planned around the parade, according to Executive Band Director Dan Holroyd.

Holroyd said, "This will be an excellent opportunity for our Wyoming students to represent our state in the most prestigious parade in the world. Many outstanding bands from around the country applied to participate in this parade and we were selected."

Twenty Worland students are part of the 320 member band. Worland Wyoming All State Marching Band member Dane Bennett said, "The most exciting thing about this opportunity is being able to experience such a huge parade that is seen by billions. Being part of the Wyoming All State Marching Band is an experience of a lifetime."

Worland Wyoming All State Marching Band member Kyra Klinghagen said, "It's such a privilege to be part of the Wyoming All State Marching Band and I feel honored to be part of a group of people who get to travel to Calif. for the Tournament of Roses parade."

The Wyoming students will be marching and playing for around two hours. "The five and a half mile Rose Parade route begins at the corner of Green Street and Orange Grove Boulevard in Pasadena. The parade travels north on Orange Grove at a leisurely two and a half miles per hour pace and then turns east onto Colorado Boulevard, where the majority of the parade viewing takes place. Near the end of the route, the parade turns north onto Sierra Madre Boulevard and concludes at Villa Street," according to the tournamentofroses.com website.

While the parade route may be long, the Worland members are not too concerned. "I'm not nervous about the length of the parade. I'm confident that our band will sound good and we all have been practicing and rehearsing for the parade," Klinghagen said.

"I was concerned about the length of the parade at first. The directors made a big deal about it and it psyched out quite a few of us, but after all the camps we did during the summer, I feel a lot better and prepared," Worland Wyoming All State Marching Band member Delanie Campbell said.

While in California the members will not only participate in the Tournament of Roses Parade, they will also be visiting other sites. They will be going to Disneyland, take a Hollywood/Beverly Hills sightseeing tour, enjoy a Universal Studios behind the scenes tour and take a dinner/ dance cruise.

"I'm most excited for the big corner in the parade route where the cameras and TVs are everywhere and people are flooding the streets," Klinghagen said.

"I'm excited for the tour of Hollywood. I know it's unlikely but I'm holding out hope that we might see a celebrity of some sort," Campbell said.

The Worland members arrived in California Monday and will be returning home Saturday with many experiences and memories to look back on and learn from. "I've already made memories that will last a life time and we haven't even checked into the hotel yet. I'm hoping to have stories to tell my grandkids," Campbell stated.
