Donald "Hawk" Hawkins

Donald “Hawk” Hawkins, 83, passed away January 9, 2016 at his home in Thermopolis after years of declining health.

Born in 1932 in Trenton, Nebraska, he was one of five children born to Ross and Josephine (Berger) Hawkins.

He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1952-1956 and was discharged in 1959 from the Reserves.

Moving to Thermopolis in 1958, he was employed as a Central Office Specialist for Mountain Bell, US West and RT Communication.

He married Betty Pomeroy in 1964. The couple raised two children. Hawk chaperoned the Wild Cat Band and 4-H Camp in which the children were involved. Hawk spent many hours cooking at fundraisers for the band. Summers were spent camping and traveling.

Later, he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.

A lifetime member of VFW Post #2281, he was active behind the scenes. He enjoyed animals, feeding deer, birds and watching the buffalo.

Loved ones remaining include his wife of 51 years; children, Julie (Tony Nettles) Lehman and Ross Hawkins; 3 grandchildren; his siblings & numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, Jan. 13, 2:00 PM at Community Federated Church with military honors at Monument Hill Cemetery.
