Serving the Big Horn Basin for over 100 years
Vicki Doerr of Boise, Idaho passed away on Monday, January 4, 2016 after a long battle with leukemia.
She was born in Basin, Wyoming on March 1, 1941 to John and Georgia Hartman. She grew up south of Basin on Orchard Bench Road where her father farmed. She graduated from Basin High School in 1959 and worked at the Security State Bank during the summers. While attending the University of Wyoming from 1959 – 1962, she was a member of various academic honoraries and joined Delta Delta Delta sorority.
Vicki married Eugene A. Doerr from Lovell, Wyoming, on September 1, 1962. They moved to Chicago where Eugene was attending Northwestern Dental School. While there, Vicki worked as a secretary at various jobs including a scrap-metal company, an advertising agency and at the American Dental Association.
After her husband finished dental school in 1965, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served as a Captain in the Army Dental Corps at Fort Sill, Oklahoma where they lived for two years during the Vietnam War. In 1967, they moved to Basin where Dr. Eugene A. Doerr practiced dentistry for 33 years.
Vicki and her husband raised three sons in Basin, and Vicki cared for her elderly parents for over 20 years. Vicki was a devoted mother who would go to great lengths to support her children. She prided herself on raising three physicians who all chose rigorous surgical careers.
In 2001, the Doerrs' moved to Boise, Idaho. Before her illness, Vicki and her husband traveled to the far corners of the earth. She is survived by her husband, Eugene; sons, Timothy (Meredith) in Boise, Idaho, Anthony (Heather) in Gulf Breeze, Florida, and Todd (Shideh) in Scottsdale, Arizona; twelve grandchildren; a sister, Jeanette Clack in Denver, Colorado; a brother, Rod Hartman, and many aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews.
Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, January 16, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Basin, Wyoming with Reverend Mary Barbee officiating. Burial will follow at Mount View Cemetery in Basin, Wyoming.
