WORLAND – Now that the nonconference schedule is over, the long haul toward the 3A East Regional Tournament begins this weekend with Worland having a pair of 3A Northeast contests against Douglas and Newcastle, respectively.
The top-ranked Lady Warriors went a perfect 8-0 in nonconference play to begin the season and remain the only undefeated team in the entire state – regardless of classification. They'll put that perfect mark on the line as No. 4 Douglas comes to town this evening, boasting an 8-2 record.
Douglas has long played the bully against Worland in the recent past during its reign over the 3A East.
But the Lady Warriors finally got some payback at the regional tournament last year in Rawlins as they ended the season for the Lady Bearcats with a 48-41 win in the consolation bracket – denying them a chance to defend their title at the state tournament.
Having that win would seemingly provide some added confidence for the Lady Warriors – not that they need it, though, according to Worland girls basketball coach Mark Mortimer.
