GILLETTE (AP) — A Canadian company that had proposed a rare earths mineral mine in northeastern Wyoming has suspended the project.
The Gillette News Record reports that Vancouver, British Columbia-based Rare Element Resources has asked the U.S. Forest Service to suspend activities on the project, including all permitting and licensing efforts.
The company had proposed a mine in the Black Hills National Forest and a processing plant in Upton.
Rare earth metals are used in medical and computer technology and in magnets and lasers.
