Community angel banquet Friday, Fashion show Saturday
WORLAND – The award-winning Women’s Expo will be this weekend with organizers promising it to be bigger and better.
According to University of Wyoming Extension Northwest Area Nutrition and Food Safety Educator Phyllis Lewis last year the Women’s Expo received first place from WEAFCS (WY Extension Association Family and Consumer Sciences) for the state of Wyoming. “This year the Women’s Expo is going to be bigger and better,” Lewis said.
The community angel banquet dinner will kick start the event at 5:30 p.m. Friday at the Worland Community Center Complex. This year the community angel is Donna Moberly. Moberly is being honored for her many contributions to the community, which includes volunteering her time for many different activities.
“In the past we’ve kept the community angel’s name a secret – even from the recipient. This year we decided to let the cat out of the bag so people know why they want to come to the buffet dinner to support their friend,” Lewis said.
“The community angel dinner will have musical entertainment provided by harpist Julie Edholm, while light hors d’oeuvres are being served,” Worland Community Center Complex Special Events Coordinator Sheryl Ley said. “The dinner will follow at 6 p.m. with an enlightening message from Gail Carver offering a program titled ‘The Woman Not in the Photo’ beginning at 6:45 p.m.,” she added.
Deadline for tickets is tonight for Friday’s banquet. Tickets are available at the WCCC.
Expo
The Women’s Expo will run from 9 a.m. through 2 p.m. Saturday at the Worland Community Center Complex. There will be a variety of booths offering health and education information along with vendors selling a variety of items including cosmetics and jewelry.
There will also be speakers throughout the day, covering a variety of subjects of interest to women. Speakers include: Jonathan Schmidt from the American Cancer Society, Zariah Tolman of Burlington from the Distinguished Young Women of Wyoming, Randall Homan from Chopper Crossfit and many more.
The second annual dress for a cause formal dress exchange fashion show will be from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday. “There will be a style show that Gail Carver is chairing, with formals being available for a reduced price for our local girls to purchase. That should save them a trip to Billings or Casper or from going online,” Lewis said. “We have 11 girls to model the dresses,” she added.
