Health officials say Wyoming not at risk for Zika virus 

CHEYENNE (AP) — Wyoming health officials say that the state is not at risk for mosquitoes carrying the Zika virus, but they are counseling residents who have traveled to countries where the virus is present.

The Wyoming Tribune Eagle reports that the mosquito that carries the virus does not live in Wyoming, which means the virus does not appear to be a threat to the general public.

Wyoming Department of Health employees are talking to residents who have traveled or plan to travel to other countries where the Zika virus has been confirmed.

State epidemiologist Dr. Tracy Murphy says there have been no cases of Zika in Wyoming.

Zika has generally mild symptoms but is suspected in a surge of birth defects in Brazil, where infections were first identified last year.
