Festival of Trees helps supply Girl Scouts

WORLAND - For 30 years the Pinnacle Bank has put on the Festival of Trees event, which generates money for local charities and non-profit organizations. The Festival of Trees event in December 2015 generated $23,790 and the money was distributed between 37 local organizations. One of those organizations was the Worland Girl Scouts.

The Girl Scouts is an organization for girls that makes a difference in young girls lives. “The Girl Scouts encourages girls to realize that they can do anything that they set their mind to,”  said Sandy Richard, Worland Girl Scout Service Unit Manager/ Service Unit Treasurer/ Troop leader for three troops and co leader for six other troops.

According to the Girl Scout website, “Girl Scouts learn who they are, what they care about and what their talents are. They learn how to make the world a better place and how to collaborate with other people locally and globally to make a difference in the world.”

The money that the Worland Girl Scouts received from the Festival of Trees will used to run the service unit. The service unit pays for events that the girls do and pays for supplies. “The service unit pays for the supplies needed for the Edith Healy Little House, such as the Internet, juice, snacks, paper products and cleaning supplies,” Richard said. “It also pays for the events that the girls do,” she added.

“It’s the adult part, planning the activities for all the troops within Worland. Going over events we want to hold for the girls and paying for the items needed to do the events,” Richard said. “Like for the Festival of Lights, the service unit buys the lights and decorations needed for the float,” she added.

The Girl Scouts held a Cookie Kick Off Thursday. The event prepared the girls for the Girl Scout Cookie sales that begin Friday with instructions on safety and how to properly order the cookies.

“The girls will be selling cookies for three weeks starting today. If you want cookies and haven’t been contacted by Feb. 20 let me know,” Richard said.
