CHEYENNE (AP) — Wyoming Chief Justice James Burke says technological improvements continue in the state’s courts but still have a ways to go under budget constraints.
Burke gave his annual state of the judiciary address to Wyoming lawmakers on Monday’s opening day of the legislative session.
New technology in Wyoming courtrooms includes video displays for jurors to get a close look at evidence. Burke says video conferencing also is becoming more common and more court documents are going electronic.
The judicial branch wants lawmakers to approve another $300,000 for technology over the upcoming biennium. Burke says that wouldn’t meet every technological need in Wyoming’s courts but would be a good step.
He says a total of $73 million sought to fund the entire judicial system is “very lean.”
