BOBCATS ELIMINATED

Thermopolis falls to Riverside in regional play-in game 55-52

THERMOPOLIS – What a turn of events for the Thermopolis Bobcats.

After picking up a 58-43 win over Riverside on Saturday, Thermopolis had to turn around and play the Rebels again on Monday in a play-in game between the bottom two teams in the 2A Northwest to decide who would take the final seed into the 2A West Regional Boys Basketball Tournament this weekend in Riverton.

The Bobcats and Rebels meet three times prior during the regular season, with the former defeating the latter in each of those games. But the Rebels won the one that mattered most on Monday as they went into Hot Springs County and came away with a 55-52 win – just two days after suffering a double-digit defeat at the hands of the same team.

Riverside got out in the lead early in the game just like it did on Saturday, but this time around it was able to maintain the lead. It grew to as many as seven points late in the fourth quarter as the Rebels led 53-46, but Thermopolis' Hudson Roling hit back-to-back 3s to cut the deficit to one as his team trailed 53-52. But Riverside finish the game at the charity stripe and held on for the win.

Ethan Sherburne led the Rebels with 20 points while Brian Vigil added 16 and Ethan Vigil contributed nine.

The Bobcats were led by sophomores Noah Schwalbe and Roling who had 18 and 17 points, respectively.

The Rebels will face Wind River in the first round of the 2A West Regional Basketball Tournament in Riverton on Thursday at 4 p.m.
