Worland High School will be taking 35 athletes to the State Indoor Track Championships in Gillette today and Saturday.
Coach Ed Wise, "We should have some do very well and quite a few competing in the finals." He told his team at the start of the final practice Thursday that they each should strive for personal records this weekend. "If you get a PR I'm going to be happy," he said.
For those that should advance to finals on Saturday and perhaps have a shot at placing in the top eight are Andrew Cady in the shot put, Cody Bjorhus in the 55-meter dash, Jake Hart in the 400-meter dash; Brad Lyman in the high jump, pole vaulters Bjorhus and Josh Garza, and sprinters Emmy Dykeman and Emily Keller, and Keller in the high jump.
Wise noted indoor track is unique in that there are no class divisions; all teams compete together. He said there are 22 indoor track teams, most of which are traditional 4A schools.
This year is the largest indoor track team in recent history, Wise said, adding that it is great to be taking 35 to the state meet.
Field events start at noon today, followed by track events at 12:30 p.m. Events start at 9 a.m. on Saturday. The meet is at the Campbell County Recreation Center Field House in Gillette.
